The things I see (in Rock's future) are the garage band thing, which seems to be going nowhere; emo, the edges of which have been eking out a scant foothold for a while (Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182), but might yet get fuller; and the one on the horizon, some good power-pop-style stuff. I don't even have a good name for it yet, but there seem to be some good bands that are making lively pop music with rock sensibilities. I'm still trying to search this one down, though, so don't quote me on it; it's probably awfully closely related to the emo, so I could just be wrong.
