Depending on the storage media, there is a definite latency in storing data. If I understand correctly, most digitals come with an internal memory buffer to queue up images while they're waiting for the card to finish writing the prior images.

I understand certain cards and/or brands of cards may be faster/slower than others, but I don't know any details.

Also... only 12MP? Are you sure that's enough?
