i am running 2.00 beta 11 on my player and have noticed that every time I start my car, the info option changes from what I had it on previously. I like "line" or "transient" but after I turn off my car and turn it on again, it goes back to either "track" or "now & next".

Also, sometimes it will boot up but power down after initialization... sometimes....

Tech support told me I may have a faulty drive cable. Are these issues symptoms of the same ailment?

And to answer your other two questions...

When you say "power down" after initialization, do you mean that it goes into standby mode? It will go into standby mode after booting if that's what it was doing the last time you pulled the plug. Details about standby mode are in the FAQ here.
