Hi All!

After having installed JEmplode a few months ago (which I use very often and like very much), I've been getting this error on some sites :

This is in dutch, it says (roughly translated) : "For a correct presentation of this page, the following parts should be downloaded : Java Virtual Machine"

When I click "download" then, a download process for a file of +/- 5mb starts. But when this utility wants to install itself, this error shows up :

Again (roughly) translated : "The virtual machine you want to install (Microsoft VM) is a protected system part and can only be upgraded with a more recent version of the OS or service pack"

I don't understand this error. I'm using win2000 with the most recent service pack (SP3).
I don't know what I can do about this, mostly because I don't know what the error means.

This is really getting on my nerves because because of this some site I visit often loose some of their functionality (some links don't work). One of those site eg. is Club Nokia.

Can anybody help ?

Thanks!

Yes, it's my home PC and I'm the only user.

To me, it seems to be a conflict between the Microsoft Java VM, and the Sun Java VM JEmplode likes to use.

I don't understand this error. I'm using win2000 with the most recent service pack (SP3).

This might work then. Open up the "Add/Remove Programs" control panal, and play with the default for Java options. See if that affects the error in any way. A site that should trigger that is the RioCar boot logo page as it still uses a Java applet to display the animated logos.

You're right. The RioCar boot logo page does trigger this error. But switching the default Virtual machine for Java from "current Virtual Machine" to "Microsoft Virtual Machine" doesn't work.
The selection automatically returns to "current virtual machine" without any effect on the error.

Ah, so every page that uses Java is going to show that error?

I would definitely try turning off the Sun Plugin support in IE and see if it makes a difference... jEmplode doesn't use the java Plugin (just the JRE/JVM externally) so this shouldn't affect jEmplode at all. Incidentally, I saw this on a machine at work once (unrelated to jEmplode) but never really followed it through to figure out what was happening -- Let me know i you track down what's going on. Mike

I've turned off the "use Java 2V1.4.0_01 <for applet> option in the advanced options of my IE, but it doesn't change a thing.

I probably won't be able to track it down myself because I've tried every option that I know of. The last thing I can think about is completely uninstalling Jemplode and those Java applets, but that's something I would like to avoid if at all possible. (I like Jemplode!)

Try using the Java control panal to disable the plugin. My version has two options, the first being to disable the plugin entirly. The second is on a seperate tab and allows me to set what browsers it attaches to.

Here are two (untested) recommendations that I found: One person said: Just open the Java Plugin control panel applet, go to the browser tag, turn on IE, hit apply, then turn off IE and hit apply again. Done. Another said: 1) Set Microsoft's JRE as the one being used in IE6 2) Reboot the PC 3) Install JDK 1.3.1_04 and make sure I had the IE checkbox selected 4) Reboot the PC 5) Set Microsoft's JRE as the one being used 6) Reboot the PC 7) Uninstall JDK 1.4.0 that was installed previously 8) Install JDK 1.4.0 again and make sure IE checkbox was selected This is apparently some confusion between Windows, IE, and Sun Java VM....

Hey, that first solution worked! YAY! Thanks Mike! (also thanks to Drakino!)

I can't believe it was as simple as that, but hey, it worked!

I did notice however that I've got TWo Java plug in control panels : one being 1.3.1_03 and one being 1.4.0_01. Is this correct ? Can't this cause problems?

Thanks again!

That's pretty weird about having two control panels ... you can try uninstalling the old version ... I would be prepared to reinstall 1.4 though (in case it gets confused).

I would, but I don't have that lastest version. (I believe it came with Jemplode). Where can I find this installer? (I've searched on both microsoft and sun's site, but didn't find it)

Otherwise I'll just keep it the way it is : it works fine now. (you know : if it ain't broken, ... )

Found it! I removed the other two versions and installed the 1.4.1 SE. Everthing works great now. Thanks again!
