Isn't it almost time now for the next one of the never ending betas? Since 2.0 b 3 the life cycle of a beta version had been half a year at the longest... and I'm still wanting to get a decent RDS.
bye, [L]

Don't know if you've been around much lately, but the rumor is that it's been released to the alpha team, so keep an eye out.

Doubtful... I think that the only time that Lemmy comes here is too demand working RDS. I don't think he enjoys our company otherwise

In fact the only thing holding back Release Candidate 1 is that the RDS AF fix isn't fully working. Toby is working on that now, and as a result there is a new visual - AF station real time signal strength graph
TA has been long fixed as far as I know.

I _do_ come here now and then but I got no troubles with my empeg so I keep my feet still. All I need now is... guess what? working RDS.

gimme gimme gimme....
not only I'm in the country with one of the best RDS 'networks' so to speak, I'm also in a region where especially RDS AF would be really stressed.

How long is the new version usually with the alpha team before release to the public?

It doesn't follow a set schedule. It's an EOL product, they work on the car player software in their spare time.

It was intended to release 2.0-final within a few days, but the RC failed. The XP driver had a problem (fixed quickly) and the RDS AF support continues to have a problem (working on it - only goes wrong in the car, which slows things down!).

strange thing, tho
basically you say things like "you are lucky that you get a new version at all", while rob says "it would have been out already if it weren't for a few bugs that are only reproducable in car"...
bye,

Both statements are perfectly correct though. We are very, very lucky to be getting new versions of firmware for a product that the manufacturer hasn't sold for over a year (and probably never made any profit on).
I hope you do realise how unusual this is and how priviledged this makes us ?

yes, its going to be great when its out, but im almost certain that once version 2.0 final is out, thats gunna be it for software dev on the player. Which is fine by me.

Hmm... I am not so sure... I am guessing that you want all of the really cool features you have been working on in the new products to be available in your car right now...

So THATS what you tell the bean counters you're doing when you devote SB time and resources on software upgrades for a EOL'ed product?
Nice thinking - and I bet they believed you too...

It's a good argument. Our new hard disk portable shares much of the same code, including as yet untested features such as Ogg Vorbis and Cross Fade.

OK so after a lot of debugging by Toby we discover that the tuner module in the A Class is screwed, and the RDS AF code actually appears to work perfectly. [censored]
So, we should now be able to release RC2 to the alpha team and see where that leads us.

Quite happy to take it to Fylingdales and Memwith Hill, The USAF radar must be at its most intense, right now - if an Empeg can survive that, it can survive any airport radar!

Parking outside Menwith Hill and fiddling with unidentifiable bits of electronics may not be all that smart a move right now...

I fancied a holiday in Cuba, It'll just be on the wrong side! Anyway, it was only a trojan horse to jump the queue for the software.

The general alpha team consensus seems to be that we should fix more bugs before releasing an RC3 or a final. Maybe we'll release RC2 to the world at large as an interim.
In other news, we released v3.00-alpha1 to the alpha team yesterday. This is a very clunky early release but hopefully we'll whip it into shape to follow on quickly from 2.0-final. It has lots of fun toys.

You've really got to stop telling the masses about these versions Rob.
Just makes us want them more. Then we hound you. Then you tell us about something new. Cycle repeats...

Given the bug-fixes I've seen reported here, and assuming that the alpha-test team have found no real show-stoppers in RC2, I'd certainly be among those installing it if it were available. Even at the expense of some delay to 2.0 final, because you've fixed the RDS bugs that I care about and the remaining bugs are less important to me. Is it true that there are no known regressions compared with 2.0b13?
I know it's your decision and all that, but it can't harm to have a go, right?
