General Parts list....

The Replacement Parts List now resides on the Empeg Wiki.In another thread I'd suggested a place in the FAQ for just parts related information. Then I decided to scour and try and find any existing information for parts. (Parts being LED's, sled plugs, resistors, fuses) What I'd like is a good list with digikey part numbers and or links for easy access to the manufacturer. I realize most of this is on the BBS here somewhere but trying to dig it up can sometimes be daunting. I think having a centralized location for all this would make it really easy for the do-it-yourselfers to easily find what they need for projects (even if it's only in this post). Heres what I have so far... If you see anything wrong or can contribute part numbers go for it!! Button Materials Buttons 4 button leds, Digikey Part 67-1606 1 SMD resistor pack, 1k Ohm, 4 resistors, Digikey part Y4102CT Knob Materials Knob Board (from Brian) or your own design 1 SMD Transistor 2 to 4 100 Ohm SMD resistors 1 10k Ohm SMD resistor 3 or 4 knob leds, Digikey Part 67-1608 Sled Plugs Digikey Part H10109-ND - QR/P6-24P-C(01) Male Housing 1 Digikey Part H10085-ND - QR/P1-PC1A-111 Male Power Terminal 1 Digikey Part H10087-ND - QR/P1-PC2A-111 Male Signal Terminal 22 I can probably dig up some digikey part numbers for a few more of the button pieces.

Thanks Loren!
For the Knob materials I have some part numbers that I used on mine...
For the 100 Ohm SMD resistors, Digikey part number 311-100CCT-ND
Now I'm trying to figure out why I have 560 Ohm resistors??

Hey, great idea!
Here's the part number of the Female Plug. I think it should also be on the list if somebody needs a replacement or just a backup ;-)

I think he used 560 Ohms first (that's also what's in the picture), but I think he had some problems with them and changed to 1kOhm. I read it in an old post, but I can't remember which one.

That would explain it... and probably why I can't find part numbers for the 1k in all my crap! (or any 1k's in my parts drawer)

Farnell number for the 10nF cap : 499-225 (size 0805, order multiple=10)
The Farnell number for the resistor pack is 196-770 (the rest is only description).
Btw, what size is Brian using for the SMT LEDs and resistors?
It should be possible to use Farnell number 355-7996 for the white SMT LEDs.
I don't know if he is using 0603 or 0805 size resistors, but here are the Farnell numbers:
100 Ohm (0603): 911-112
100 Ohm (0805): 911-732
10 kOhm (0603): 911-355
10 kOhm (0805): 911-975
Farnell numbers for 3mm LEDs:
941-852 (about the same intensity as Brian's LEDs, but expensive)
352-6847 (less than half the price and half the intensity)
I used a BC857A transistor when I made my boards and that has Farnell number 302-3412

Ahh I see the problem. I was just entering that in the order... they have 2 different options(with part numbers) to order. Just out of curiosity.. does anyone have a pdf or something of the nob pcb with the 4 leds. I have a kit here to make pcb's but it would be much easier with a template... I just want to try and make one for my empeg since it seems like it will be a while before brian can get some more out.. plus then all I need is the buttons. This is the one that would be great to have a pdf of: <img src="http://www.hulkster.net/empeg/buttons/pics/knoblayout-new.jpg">
Also.. anyone know the digikey number for:
1 SMD Transistor
4 100 Ohm SMD resistors
1 10k Ohm SMD resistor
Thanks ,
Greg

Here's something to add. No Digikey part number as they don't carry them, but here are Molex part numbers:
10-pin header (male) used for internal connections to docking connector, 89400-1020
10-pin housing (female) used for internal connections to docking connector, 87369-1000
Female contacts for above housing, 50212-8100
You can order these as samples if need be.

The wire that comes with the tuner kit is as long as the extension cord on the original tuner was. And you probably shouldn't make it any longer.

4 button leds, Digikey Part 67-1606
...
3 or 4 knob leds, Digikey Part 67-1608
It would be even more usefull if you could give the specs on these (diameter, height, connector pitch, electrical parameters), so that those without access to Digikey (or those wanting to order it from a store a little closer) have a chance identifying the parts.

sven

Given the parts numbers, the parameters are easily enough found on digi-keys website.
But the main points:
Button LEDs - standard 3mm round housing, radial leads 1U (2.54mm) c/c. Vf=3.6V, 1100mCd
Knob LEDs - 3.2mm x 2.8mm x 1.9mm, Vf=3.6V, 150mCd

Ok. So i've got just about everything ready to order to light up my empeg. Just need two things: 1 10k Ohm SMD resistor and 1 SMD Transistor. Does anyone know the Digi-key part numbers for these?
Also for the dimmer fix.. will this capacitor from Digi-key work? Digi-Key part 399-1158-1-ND. If so you can add that to your list ; )
Thanks,
Greg

As far as the transistor goes, I asked Brian about this a while ago, he didn't remember a specific part number but it's a basic pnp switching transistor. I ordered two different kinds (unfortunately can't find the order or part number to save me) they both worked, one was just microsopic.... A Digikey search should bring up a few results.

Hrm.. So something like this for the transistor? MMBT3906DICT-ND and 311-100CCT-ND for the 10k resistor? Sorry for asking so many questions.. I just dont want to blow up my empeg.

The vfd screen is noritake MN12832E. Someone posted that they dont make them anymore unless you purchase a min of like 100.

Don't be sorry thats what this whole thread is about! As far as blowing up your empeg, just make sure the resistor array checks out with a mutimeter and the display itself plugs in correctly (pin alignment), as far as the knob board just test it before you connect it to the empeg...
As far as the parts you've come up with, they look good to me, but I'm no expert on things of that matter, perhaps Mark or someone with a little more expertise could look those over and give it a blessing?

Tuner Connectors!

Woo Hoo!
I noticed one of the local parts shops had a new wall of Molex connectors on display recently, so today I returned with a tuner connector in hand, and.. Found it!
Tuner Connector (M/F pair with pins): Molex/GC/Waldom WMF-3904PRT
And on the back it has the individual Molex part numbers:
UPDATED: corrected male/female, added Digikey numbers
Recepticle (sled/dock end): 39-01-2080 (digikey WM3703-ND)
Plug (tuner end): 39-01-2081 (digikey WM3603-ND)
8pc. Male contacts (pins for tuner): 39-00-0041 (digikey WM2500-ND)
8pc. Female contacts (pins for sled/dock): 39-00-0039 (digikey WM2501-ND)
Retail cost at this place was about C$6 for the set, and these guys are generally expensive for most stuff.
Cheers

Yeah. Oddly enough, what they call a "Plug" is what I think of as a "Recepticle" (the connector on the tuner). But I found pictures of them, and now corrected the naming, and added Digikey numbers.

I used a BC857A transistor when I made my boards
I tried that transistor and it didn't work for me. Layout and connections seem fine, but the LEDs won't light unless I bypass the transistor.

4 knob leds, Digikey Part 67-1608 Were those the smaller ones for the 4-LED board, or were they the bigger ones originally intended for the 3-LED board hence causing trouble fitting them to the 4-LED board design?
Lopan has been editing the list instead of posting a new copy, so I don't know if this number is an update since we discussed it in another thread.

67-1607 is the part number for the smaller LEDs used in the 4-LED boards. 67-1608 are the larger ones used on the 3-LED boards.

Anyone have a part number for the rotary encoder?? Mine is slipping all over the damn place on my MkII and the volume scaling is really intermittent... if that makes sense. It's the old click click kind.. i'd like to put on one of the newer quiet ones like the MkIIa's have.

It's an Alps product. It is probably part number EC11B15243BB or perhaps, EC11B15243BC. Good luck finding them. It won't be easy.

Anyone have a part number for the rotary encoder?? Better question: Can the MK2-style analog-contacts-type rotary encoder be directly replaced with the MK2A-style optical rotary encoder without modifications to the display board?
Sub-question: If Yes, can the optical version of the encoder be ordered with a round shaft instead of a keyed shaft? I happen to like the looks of the round shaft better when used with the backlit knob.

I don't know what the MK2 has for an encoder, but the one on my MK2A is definitely NOT an optical encoder- way too small for one thing, prohibitively expensive and unnecessary for another. I'm not even sure Alps makes an opitcal encoder.

I could have sworn that someone once said the Mk2 was analog and the Mk2a was optical. I could certainly be wrong. I don't remember where I saw it.

These are the original large LEDs, I don't think we could get anyone to cough up those part numbers I actually used the big ones to make my 4 LED board.

nah, the only real difference is that the Mk II is surface mount and the mk IIa is thru hole. OK, so the mk IIa also has a keyed shaft and is from a different manufacturer, but electrically they are the same. If you are really clever you could probably fit a mk IIa switch to a mk II as the pin pitches are the same ...

Thanks Hugo. I couldn't find it in the Farnell catalogue. Looks like it's one of these though:

Can anyone verify the size of the fascia hex socket cap screws? I believe they are M2.5x10. Is this correct?
Also, has the parts list been added to the FAQ or is this thread the most recent info?

Does anyone know of a source for these? I need 4 new screws and Paul needs one. A few spares wouldn't hurt either.

Maryland Metrics apparantly don't sell black oxide 2.5x10, only plain steel.
Ditto for MSC Industrial Supply.
Fastenal's only metric hex screws are in expensive kits with a minimum size of M4. Didn't even bother to check finish.
Digikey don't sell any metric black oxide.
Next!?

I purchase an M2.5x6 DIN912 SHCS from Metric Screw and Tool Co. ($25 min. order) with a black oxide finish 1-800-METRIC1.
Also, Metric & Multistandard. http://www.metricmcc.com/
Search under Metric Item Only for 912 (the DIN #)
I'd be very suprized to see a bright zinc or uncoated steel socket head cap screw in that size. Stainless and High-Tensile would be more standard.

Here's the link for Mcmaster-Carr for these. They can be found in alloy steel and stainless steel. They do not appear to have black oxide.

I ordered the M2.5x10mm from McMaster Carr. After re-measuring the original socket head cap screws instead of the ones provided by 303 with my new face, I believe the originals were 12mm. I don't expect it will make much difference but thought I'd posit it.
On to HD screws, the originals were M3 but what length. I've ordered both 6mm and 8mm. Any idea if these are correct or not? Below are details from the order.
91801A151 Metric 316 SS Flat Head Phil Machine Screw M3 Size, 6mm Length, .5mm Pitch, Packs of 100, $6.76
91801A154 Metric 316 SS Flat Head Phil Machine Screw M3 Size, 8mm Length, .5mm Pitch, Packs of 100, $6.71
92290A060 Metric 316 SS Socket Head Cap Screw M2.5 Thread, 10mm Length, .45mm Pitch, Packs of 50, $6.88

Well, I searched this thread, but didn't find the answer to my question: Where can I get a replacement screw for the connector on the back of the empeg? My wife's lost one of its two screws, and I know they're very specific parts, as they allow some slop on the connector. Anyone know where I can get a couple replacements?

You could use a regular screw (as long as it was the right length) and just not screw it down all the way. Loctite the hell out of it, and you should be good to go.

Just buy one of the connectors. The screws are included with it.

Be careful using the empeg without one of the screws. It's a great way to get your empeg stuck in the sled, which in turn is a great way to break the handle trying to get it out.

Yea I found that out the hard way. It was ok for a while then one day it was jammed in good. I wiggled and pulled and then the handle snapped and even then the empeg didnt pop out. I have since drilled a hole in the two parts of the handle and glued in a needle. That helps hold it together til I can find a replacement handle. Just spend the $5 for the connector and 2 screws. I ordered mine the day before I broke the handle.

Does anyone have the part numbers and source that carries the blue and white button switches that connect to the display board and hold the lights and (stock) grey buttons? I want to buy a few so I can send them to molding companies to help determine the "tolerances" for the translucent buttons that are in progress. Thanks.

There is a dimensional PDF downloadable from both Farnell and the original manufacturer (ALPS, I think).

Quote: ADDA 40x10mm 4.7cfm 17dB(A)
Apparently, the ADDA AD0412MS-G70 40x10mm oil-impregnated sleeve bearing fan is not 17dB(A) 4.7cfm, but 21dB(A) 5.8cfm. The incorrect specifications are widely reported on websites but ADDAs own datasheet confirms the correct values. Rapid Electronics 37-0882, ~£4.50.
There is also the AD0412MX-G70 40x10mm 12v 5.7cfm 19dB(A) brushless with hypro-bearing. Mouser 664-D4010MX-12V, ~$9.

Memory upgrades parts list

Hi,
From the posts in the memory upgrade threads, the critical part for a MK2A memory upgrade is 2 of 4Mx16 3.3v 50ns 4k refresh TSOP-50 EDO DRAM: Micron MT4LC4M16R6TG-5 or equivalent.
For a MK1 and a MK2 respectively, 4 ICs are required. I *think* the correct parts are: 1Mx16 3.3v 50 or 60ns 1k refresh TSOP-44/50 EDO DROM: Micron MT4LC1M16E5TG-5, Siemens HYB3118165BST-60 or equivalent.
In particular, I'm not sure about the speed - 50ns or 60ns? Is the refresh right?

Tony - did the parts list above get FAQ'd? I searched using 'parts list' and didn't get a hit. Is is there? Is my search Fu just that weak?
The changelog seems neglected as well, it reports the last change as July 30, 2002. I assume this is incorrect?

Quick question, Is this the right fuse
SMD Fuse: FUSE 1.00A 63V 1206 SMD Digikey part WK4661CT-ND
to replace this fuse?
and, would anyone have two spares kicking around they'd like to sell?

Yes. Where are you? Try Rob Scofield (scofiel): carsupport at xs4all. nl. If you are in the US, there are a number of US BBS members that may be willing to sell you a fuse. In the unlikely event that Rob is out of stock and you don't want to wait, I have a spare (I am in the UK).

Anybody ever find a part number for those stepped screws that go into the docking connector on the back of the unit? The connector is really cheap and all, but I'm now buying my third one just to get the screws (which keep falling out).
Cheers.

I'd like to make a custom harness with molex connectors to make adding the sled plug n play (as well as putting back my deleted RCA connectors for the tuner).
This is the correct part to go on the sled I believe and I would like to know which are the correct connectors to add in at the back after attaching the wires.
Thanks.

Nice work!
Maybe we can unsticky this post after someone modifies the FAQ. I'd say that we could use another post or two in the FAQ forum here pointing people at the Wiki for third-party software, the Hijack FAQ, replacement parts, etc., in addition to the normal FAQ.

The Replacement Parts List now resides on the Empeg Wiki.
I'm de-sticky-ing the thread and editing the original post. Tony, could you please update the FAQ and, perhaps, put a thread in the FAQ forum?

Sure....but how do I replace the RCA connectors...? I've been looking all over the place for replacement RCA connectors (connectors that just end in tinned wire, and aren't terminated with another RCA connection) and I can't seem to locate them.
I suppose I could clip the ends of existing RCA cables, but I'd like to achieve some semblance of audio quality here. Any pointers would be great.

I did see them at Radio Shack, but they're male only which would require an adapter. I also took a look at digikey, but they only sell completed adapters, it would appear.

# 1 SMD Transistor: Digikey part MMBT390DICT-ND
I believe that there is a 6 missing in the transistor part number above. It should be MMBT3906DICT-NDNow discontinued. The RoHS compliant replacement is MMBT3906-FDICT-ND

The Replacement Parts List now resides on the Empeg Wiki. I'm de-sticky-ing the thread and editing the original post. Tony, could you please update the FAQ and, perhaps, put a thread in the FAQ forum? Sigh. Restickifying.

Anyone know how to locate and order Mark 2 docking connector parts? Both sled-side and player-side.
Right now I think I might be looking for a couple extra parts of the player-side half of the mark 2 docking connector. Both the plastic bit and the pins.
I recall someone in another thread was inquiring about something similar recently.

Thanks, but my main desire is for the Mk2/Mk2a player-side bits for now. The big black plastic piece as well as the little pins.

Trying to follow those digikey links to the "for use with" items, I'm only seeing the sled-side pieces, not the player-side pieces.

Aha, there we go. Had to open up the datasheet PDF and locate the mfr part number and type that into the search box at Digikey.

Except, looking at the actual player itself, even though that's the correct number of pins, the picture doesn't look right for their arrangement compared to the player.

Except... ARGH... there are four different kinds of crimp terminals listed that go with that part. Which one is the correct one? Aha: Figured it out. The connector has two different kinds of slots: The 22 "signal" terminals and the 2 "power" terminals. Each of those types of crimp terminals comes in two flavors: Thin wire and thick wire flavors. I think I can make an informed buying decision now. Thanks for your help in getting me started on locating the part, Shonky! For future reference for this thread, it's the QR/P6 SERIES, not the QR/P1 SERIES that we want.

Following up: Yes, that turns out to be the correct part for the MK2 player-side docking connector, the QR/P6 Series. The parts I received fit perfectly. The blade terminals that are linked to it come in four flavors: Large terminals for the two large power pins, and smaller terminals for the remaining smaller docking pins. Each of those comes in two flavors for two different gauges of wire to crimp.
