the player was in sync, and accidentally the power got shut off. as i tried to restart it, and run emplode again, it failed to read that my player had any music on it. even when i scroll thru my playlist on the player, it shows that there is none. is all my memory gone? all 25 gigs of music that i had on there so far? if not, how can i go about retreiving it? i already reloaded beta 2.0 on it, and that didnt help at all. what do i do?

Does your player have one hard disk or two? If two, it might be this problem. It also could be this problem. Check those.

more than likely, since the sync didnt finish cleanly, the playlist didnt get generated. so the songs are probably orphaned. refs=0 in search show them.

Would that happen if he had 25 gigs of stuff that was already on there? Would it lose/ruin an existing playlist, or would it just have the old version of the playlist?

If you follow the links I just gave, all of the necessary information is sub-linked from there. Please read through those links VERY carefully and follow their sub-links.

Are you running the developer version of the software?

If you are not running the developer version of the software, you won't get a shell prompt when you Q and nothing will happen when you type those commands.

Make absolutely sure to go through every single step listed in the FAQ, from the very top, in exact order. Making sure you were on the developer version was one of the steps.

Did you also rule out disk drive problems before starting that procedure, as was listed in the FAQ?

So are you getting a shell prompt when you Q?

What EXACTLY does the screen look like when you run through those commands? Copy and paste from Hyperterminal if need be. Also copy and paste the section of the boot log where it detects the disk drives.

Okay, it looks like it's doing what it's supposed to be doing for the most part. You are getting both drives detected, the bash prompt is appearing. and the commands are executing as expected.

However, there are two problems I see. Here is problem one:

Abnormal player termination
Player received SIGINT, user interruption
I don't think it's supposed to exit the player with an error like that. I could be wrong.

EXT2-fs warning: mounting unchecked fs, running e2fsck is recommended
This indicates there is something wrong with the file systems. You have ignored the text in that FAQ entry telling you exactly what to do if you get an E2FSCK error message. Please follow those instructions, then repeat the procedure and see if your playlists come back after that.

Try this:

Get to a BASH prompt.

cd /drive0/fids
ls -l

Note, those are Lower-case letter L's there in that last command, not i's.

Like I said in the FAQ entry...

If that happens, click here and perform the procedure to manually FSCK the disks. You might need to repeat the above procedure after a manual FSCK.

Are those the ONLY files in that folder? That's not many, that's only a few songs.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally press delete on the root playlist or something?

Oh, now I see your question.

Once you drop to the shell prompt, the screen doesn't change. Only the player software changes the screen. What you're seeing is just whatever was on the screen the last time before you got to the shell prompt.

I thought you were saying the player froze on "loading music database" every time you turned on the power. You're just saying that the screen still says it while you're at the shell prompt. That's normal.

When you are done at the shell prompt, type "exit" to get back to the regular software. If you haven't set the drives to read-write, you can also shut off the power if you like.
