Does anyone know of anyone that makes printable DVDs that can print all over the DVD? I am looking for something that prints up until the small hole in the middle (one that will print over the clear plastic part surrounding the hole.)

Um, one small correction. You're looking for a DVD printer, not "printable DVDs." Unless you mean a brand of DVD that takes printing well.

It depends on what type of printing you want to do. Ink? Thermal? Color? Black and white?

If your answer is thermal and color, and you want to print on the entire disc surface, be prepared to spend a large amount of moolah. Take this, for example.

Even then, I don't think you're going to find many thermal printers that will print right to the center of the disc. I think it would have to know how to skip the tiny ridge that separates the clear part from the writeable part.

The more likely product would be an ink printer, which can (and most likely will) smear after printing, in high heat, or just in general.

Otherwise, there might be some kit out there for applying labels that take up the entire surface, but I think you want to print directly on the disc surface.

That post doesn't really answer this guy's question. He wants to know about DVD media that can have its hub printed on. I would suspect that the media I am currently using can, but since I have no device capable of printing in the center, I cannot say for sure.

I have an update the the linked thread though. I recently bought the new Casio CW-75 printer. It's like a P-Touch for CDs. Very cool.

I bought the Casio printer over the summer and it's great for archival purposes. Sharpies are great and all, but nothing beats the very clean look from that printer. It's wonderful.

Burdel, you should really consider one of those Casios. Printing a nice, full-color, thermal image on your disc sounds nice, but we're far off on having anything inexpensive enough to do it for your home.

Are you trying to start a little business with this or something?

Wow, that's impressive. I'd say that this guy's best bet is to wait a couple years for Casio to really set the standard for in-home CD printing. They've sure set the ball rolling.

Actually, I know which printer I want to get (Epson Photo 900). I am just looking for the blanks DVDs that I described... as far as skipping the little ridge...I am looking for something that would have a white surface all the way across (even over that ridge)

Epson photo 900 has been discontinued... (or so I'm told) I just got the Epson Photo stylus R300 , it prints directly to CD/DVD.

My parents were thinking of getting that Epson.

If you're looking for more quantities, Meritline has a great selection, usually letting you pick between 25, 50, 100, etc.

By the way, for those of you with the Casio thermal printers, I just received my next spindle of Ritek DVDs. I was a bit concerned at first because they aren't that pure, mirror-type surface that they were before, but more of a frosted surface. Now I'm actually excited about it, since the mirror surface smudged terribly, and every single fingerprint would show up on it. This new media doesn't appear to have that problem at all!

No idea, probably because they have a new line of printers or something like that. All I know is I couldn't find anything in stock online that printed to cd's, ended up walking into best buy and picking the r300 up for around 170...

ive had some for over a year and have not run into any problems with them. yet. with optical media its normally only a matter of time before problems crop up though.

I really wouldn't know, since I get a different brand (for thermal printing). I've found fewer problems with various brands of media than many people. I have a pretty fickle DVD player, so I say if it plays on that it'll play on most. I haven't tried that brand, though.

Try getting a 25-pack and see if it works on all your equipment, I suppose

This is what I use... Ritek is supposedly a great brand, I personally have had no trouble with them, (the 4x are a little more expensive) you can get 100 pack 1x printable for 89 bucks on that same site. They however appear to be all out of stock right now.

Just an update, I received my Ritek 4x printable media via UPS today. These things rock, I haven't actually tried printing on them yet. However it's the first media I've ever used that actually cranked up to 4x.... 4.1x throughout the whole burn to be exact. It took a total of 13 minutes to burn a full 4.7 gb dvd movie using dvd decryptor. This stuff has my highest praise.

Mmmm, 4x. I wish I had sprung for the 4x. It's so nice to burn a disc that quick. I'm glad you like the discs. That's actually the brand I use, but in the silver finish.

I read a review on Amazon for the Epson R300 and the person who bought said that the CD she printed smudged when it got wet...has anyone else had this experience? of course, she didn't say whether or not she printed it onto a ink-jet printable cd or not....

Yeah, she probably printed on a regular CDR. That doesn't mean ink jets don't smudge. After all, you can smudge ink jet-printed documents on regular paper.

That's why thermal is so nice. You can't smudge it.

I'll have to try them. I have an 8x burner and the cheap crap discs that I have been burning barely reach speeds of 1.4x. The play fine, just burn slow.

While media is a huge thing with burning, I noticed when I was looking at 8x burners that most all had a firmware update to support 8x burning. Now if you do have junk media I doubt it will start burning that fast, but may speed it up.

maybe I should put this under its own heading, but has anyone found the invidual ink cartridges to be cheaper than the combined ones?

For what printer? Or do you mean different types of devices?

Just printers I general..but the one I think I am going to buy is the Epson R300.
