Uhm, holy cow?!

Went to get the first shippping quote for this small box to go overseas. $16.00 USD for Airmail, and $24.75 for EMS!

Isn't that high? Sheesh.
Me.

Hmm... What is the weight / size / shape of the packages? If I remember correctly, when I was doing the VFDs (regular size replacement VFDs), I was certainly under $10. I was using "videocassette" mailers, so you have an idea of the dimensions.

Try to minimize your packing size, use either airmail, airpost or "global priority" from the USPS.

Paul,

I think it was as low as $5, and it took about 10 days (I think) to get from you to the UK

Cheers

Cris.

That sounds right! I know that I had tried a few methods at one point. Of course, it all depends on the size, shape and weight of the packages that are going out.

Having shipped a lot US > UK the best is Global Priority Mail in the flate-rate box (approx 12x6x2"), which is about $12. This usually takes 5 days and arrives by Royal Mail in the UK. The fees for collecting duty are reasonable.

Airmail Parcel Post is better for larger items that don't fit the box or heavier items and takes about 2 weeks and arrives by Parcel Farce^WForce who either smash it up or abandon it on the doorstep. I there are import duties to collect they ransack your wallet for their "fees".

I was using the online calculator, for a 4x4x4 box, 1 lb. Those were the prices it gave me. I'll go pick up a few of the Videocasette mailers and try those..

Thanks!
Me.

Working in a facility that at one time used to be Digital Equipment Corporation that now says HP on the building, your posts keep catching my eye.

Glad to see our buildings are cheep to ship overseas, since so many of our jobs seem headed that way. :-)
