Well I was going to upgrade to v3.00 a7 and I read to do a full sync before doing so and then I ran into this problem:

I do a sync in jemplode and everything seems to be fine, but what I noticed is when I editted the config.ini (before syncing), it wasn't saving with the sync so I knew it wasn't syncing right. So... I popped open hyperterminal and captured the log here:

Doing a sync in Jemplode just gives this:

Adding Swap: 16596k swap-space (priority -1)
e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09

(reboot)

Now I tried to manually do the sync using this procedure from the FAQ:

ro
umount /dev/hda4
umount /dev/hdc4
swapon /swapfile
fsck -fay /
fsck -fay /dev/hda4
fsck -fay /dev/hdc4
swapoff /swapfile
sync

But when I do the 'ro' command I get this error:

"mount: can't find /drive1 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab"

so I tried to do the next command, and got:

"umount: /dev/hda4: device is busy"

Right now my player is paused so I don't know why it could be "busy".

What do I need to do to remedy this? I planned on getting rid of the emptris, empacman stuff at the end and only leave emphatic but I can't get the changes to save to the player.

The player is trying to do a (media) filesystem check. This will take from 2 minutes to over an hour, depending how much stuff is loaded on the drives. Be patient. VERY VERY patient. Let it do its thing.

Looking at the log, it looks like you have two 30GB drives, so take Mark's advice and go watch a movie or something.

I don't see emphatic in the log, but you tell you think of "only leaving emphatic". If it's installed and running, you need to "Quit" emphatic by using its menu and THEN, do a sync. You can't upload songs to the player when emphatic is running.

I don't know if other users noticed this, but I need to do so... Took a long time to find what was going on.

Hope this helps

OK I wasn't sure if that was the reason or not.. that's cool. I'll just wait. BTW, how will I know when it's finished?

Oh and I have emphatic running with the @DC command so it won't show up right now.

I have a player with the serial number a few numbers higher than yours but my player is a Rio which I thought was a MK2a.So does yours say Rio or Empeg?

Yeah it's an MK2a so I'm pretty sure it says RIO on it. When I made that sig I wasn't aware of the MK2/MK2a difference.
