So here's a crazy idea, as originally proposed in
this post.
Since we now have reasonably easy access to a modifiable client-side kernel/distro, why not add in a few more light weight features? The Receiver has both ethernet and HPNA2 ports, so why not bridge them? I'd guess iptables would run OK in the mem/CPU confines of the Receiver.
As far as I know, there shouldn't be any hardware issues in making both NICs active, as long as the empeg hardware does nothing to preclude this...
As the original poster of the thread I ref'd above said, some of use would find it
really useful to have ethernet segment(s) in portions of the building that currently don't have it. Standalone HPNA <-->EtherNet bridges are a bit too expensive to have many of them lying about the house. I can't pull Cat5/6 cable
(trust me), and I don't mind the < 10Mbps limitation.
