MSCHRAG,

What am I doing wrong? This is very frustrating. I tried Tony's FAQ:
rwm
rm /drive0/var/database
rm /drive0/var/database3
rm /drive0/var/tags
rm /drive0/var/playlists

.. same for /drive1 ...

exit

q
rom
exit
reboot

Still, it is no help. I start jEmplode, empeg rebuilds database. JEmplode then says playlist blah blah had zero ref count adding to root. (I'm only using soup playlists by the way) I then delete zero ref counts put in root and resynch. Restart jEmplode, empeg rebuilds database, jEmplode comes up with the same playlist have zero ref count..........loop continues. zero refs aren't deleted.

Did is rwm/rom not setting permissions right? i followed Tony's FAQ precisely! any help appreciated. empeg has about 1500 songs, so rebuilds aren't excruciatingly slow.

Usually jEMplode has no problem deleting. But during my last upload, there was a time out and the empeg rebooted but jemplode just didn't do anything no movement in the transfer progress window or status bar. so i shut down jEmplode and here i am now writing this after repeated attempts at deleting failed, trying Tony's FAQ as mentioned above and then trying jEMplode to delete the zero refs.

Are you running player software version 2.0 final? Database rebuilds are problematic on the alphas.

Is it possible for you to use plain-flavored emplode? I sometimes encounter a situation where jEmplode gets confused any won't get unconfused until a sync with emplode, after which all seems fine again.

I'm using 2.0 final.

Using Emplode cured the problem. I wonder what issue Emplode solved.

I'm sure Mike would be interested in finding out, if you can make it happen again.

Yeah, this has been a persistent problem for a long time actually (maybe always?). It SEEMS to be pretty rare, which just makes it even more annoying to try to understand. It's really tough when I don't get it on mine to diagnose the real problem.

If someone does happen to get this problem again and doesn't mind being a test subject, drop me an email -- I'd love to remotely connect to your Empeg to see if I can understand what might be happening when this is going on.

Also, what did Emplode actually do with those playlists? Are they gone from your device after syncing, or are they officially attached to the root and you could then delete them?

MSCHRAG,
Emplode deleted the zero refs that both it and jemplode highlighted after starting up. Also, emplode kept your soup playlist, but ordered the songs by position number instead of by tracknr.

I'm sorry. That is not clear.

With Emplode, the zero refs showed up in the root directory. I then deleted them and synched and Emplode handled it just fine. However, Emplode is sensitive to position numbers, whereas jEmplode, with its self generated soup playlist is not. by the way, I HATE to mix using Emplode with jEmplode because i have had problems in the past.
