I'm flying next week to Manchester and I'll be working for the following three weeks about an hour north of there in Earby (between Skipton and Burnley).

Anyone in the area up for a beer with a Yank (not a verb)?

Great!
...or should I say 'smashing'?!
I'd love to see Leeds- I haven't yet been there.
Would the 21st or 28th be better for you? It makes no difference to me.

Our facility is located in Earby for proximity to our customer, based in Barnoldswick.
Now, why would they be located in Barnoldswick?
I've heard stories to the effect that they (Rolls-Royce) swapped factories with Rover in order to get the production of nifty jet bits away from population centers.
So, we endure. The countryside is actually quite charming.

I can see the Rolls plant in Google Earth, but our building in Earby is too new to show up on the photos.

Rats, I'd be up for that, but I'm leaving for North Wales at 9.00a.m on the 21st, returning on the 29th. Saturday 20th would be good for me.

Same here, the diary's looking free for those days. Just name a time and a place.

Too right, us old farts forget what work is like! I'm sure that Robotic will get much more out of meeting you two than reminiscing with the oldest member of the community. I can't do Saturday night, so leave me out and press on with a Sunday.

I've been away from P.C.s/the site since Thursday and, not knowing I had anything planned, Mrs. Boxer has arranged lunch with friends who are passing through - so I'll have to give it a miss this time round: Hopefully you'll be over again, Robotic

What a shame you're unavailable, Boxer! I'm sure I'll be over again and again- not to worry.

So, I've arrived and have started to recover from the traveling. John Smiths will be helping me later tonight! ...or maybe a Black Sheep. (Oh! That sounds wrong!)
Are we still up for a Leeds meeting point or is that too far for Andy?

Leeds is good for me

It will have to be next weekend as I am in Manchester this weekend.

Are you sure you don't want to make it Manchester, I think it's a much better city, Leeds is quite small, and Andy might give us a tour of his TV studio

What sort of food etc... do you like?

Cheers

Cris.

Manchester would be fine, as well. I haven't toured around there at all, just zipped to and from the airport.

Food can be anything- Indian, Tai, Bangers & Mash... whatever. We'd do well to avoid KFC, though!

Will you have time this weekend while in Manchester or are you still thinking of next weekend?

I don't have much time this weekend as it is tied in with a visit to Stafford and Shrewsbury too. So maybe next weekend in Leeds is better. May be andym is up for it this weekend, manchester is a great place to go shopping etc...

Indian. Now there's an idea. Yorkshire is pretty much Mecca for curry, there is a really nice place near me that has just opened, they do the biggest naan's I've ever seen, they are like elephant's slippers! We could go there if you like, after you have taken in some of the sights of Leeds. What are you into, is there anythign you would like to see?

Cheers

Cris.

I'd love to see the city center and learn a little of the local history. I'm thinking of going to a local textile mill this weekend- I was surprised to hear how the civil war in the states took its toll on the economy here at the time (not that that's a special interest of mine). I like old machines and new ones, architecture and funky pubs, planes, trains, and automobiles. I'm sure anything you have the inclination to show off around Leeds will be quite interesting to me, too!
I hope andym can join in the fun!

At some point then you should check out the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, if you've not come across that already...

Well, Leeds is the place I work, I haven't really ever visited all the attractions, there is Armley Mills or Thwaite Mills. The centre is nice esp The Victoria Quater and the Corn Exchange. How rubbish am I ! I suppose I have never really thought of Leeds itself as a place I would visit. Any other suggestions Boxer?

If you ever want a proper day out try Ironbridge in Shropshire, near where I was born

Cheers

Cris

Dammit! - Why don't the url's work? I must be having one of those days.

Royal Armouries, not my cup of tea - I must admit to not knowing or having been, or to the others that you mention.

I thought the Armouries were quite boring. I'm more of a Cold War person so places like Hack Green are more my cup of tea.

Stew, I'm quite busy this weekend but if you're planning a trip to Manchester I could probably free up a few hours Saturday evening if you're interested?

If not, I should be able to make it to Leeds next weekend.

Thanks, Andy- let's try for Leeds next weekend. That sounds like everyone's best option.
Saturday evening is already full up.

So, what's the plan then?

I have to work all day Sat, but I think I can get away without working Sunday. With the current weather our fault stacks have gone through the roof so it's all hands to the pumps

How about we keep it simple and meet for Beer and Curry?

Cheers

Cris.
