Looking at the little "empeg icons" in Tony's fabulous drive upgrade FAQ, one can see the visual/clock on the mark 1 player. It looks kinda neat - but I cant make out what is there other than the time.

What was this screen? Was it a combo play info and time? Any way to get it on the mark II? (I think it looks pretty cool).

What Id really love, and I know will never have, is a screen like that. Big, bright easy to read clock, song info, and no "star field". (Dont get me wrong, I like the visuals, but I have no clock and the starfield gets old...)

Anyway, can anyone englighten me with what that screen looked like?

Jeff

Hey, thanks.

If it's the picture I'm thinking of, that was actually a faked screen done in a pre-pre-alpha promo shot of a prototype player. There never was actually any software that looked like that.

If you're interested in creating your own screens and information modes, have a go at Emphatic by TonyC. You can define your own layouts in an XML file.

(I don't know if the clock display is one of the available variables, I haven't tried that.)

Pretty cool, I'd say.

It is, and is demonstrated in the "Transient w/ Time" mode in the default XML.

Awesome.

I don't suppose there's a font available to Emphatic that resembles the clock display in that faked screenshot?

Anyhow... if anyone gets an Emphatic screen working that looks similar to that display, post the XML here.

By the way, if you look at that faked screenshot (anyone got a link to the big version of that image?), you'll notice there's not enough room for large time sizes without squishing the other info down so small as to become useless. (Picture that same shot with 10:55 on the screen, for instance.)

Not to mention that the Mark 1 didn't have a clock. That "3:22" was presumably intended to be the position in the current track.

There are 4 fonts distributed with emphatic. One of them (either large.bf or 13pixel.bf, I forget) is kind of a tall narrow-ish font like that. Building up the XML for that is an exercise for the reader, though.

It just warms my heart when people quote the FAQ back at me.

Maybe even in the colon.
