HI guys, been a while, hope you're all well!

having finally installed this software (prob well out of date but it seems to work well), is there a way of converting disc already put on the pc as wav files, to mp3? I have almost my entire collection of cd's on here -which i'd long forgotten about since having the empeg, I'd like to do them from where they reside rather than loading them all up again, if poss.

or, am i right in suspecting that they all need loading again?

thanks,
Hugh

You shouldn't have to, and I think I remember doing what you need with EAC, but it's been years (like four or five) since I used that program. What I don't remember is how well it handles batch processing, if at all.

Personally, I've switched to an application called dBpoweramp. It does a fantastic job at ripping, but I also frequently use it as a batch converter, taking my FLAC tracks and turning them into more compressed files for taking with me on different devices. It's not free, but it's well worth the price.

Sorry I couldn't be more help...

I couldn't agree more. Unless the idea of paying for software offends you or you are a pauper, it is daft not to buy dBpoweramp.

thanks guys,

I know what you're saying but, the truth is, I've only got about 50 cd's that I need to rip into mp3, the other few hundred wither don't interest me or I've already bought / obtained the mp3 files.

other than the occasional cd I may buy from the bay or 2nd hand store, I can't see me buying many more cd's in the future. I normally just buy in mp3 if I want something now so to pay for the full db version didn't really seem economical. had I got hundreds then I probably would have.

much of the music i've got saves as wav files isn't that important to me really, it just would've been something to do if i could!

thanks again.

Hugh

I understand your position, but fortunately it sounds perfect for the 21 day fully-functional free trial of dBpoweramp. Unless it takes you 21 days to convert 50 albums...

I know we're pushing an application on you, but that's how good this one is. And even if you don't see a need for it in the future, I promise it's a nice tool to have in your software toolbox. I rarely rip CDs anymore, but I love that I have the program at my disposal.

In the past I've used Foobar2000 and Besweet to encode audio files.

Here are instructions to convert files using an older version Foobar2000 http://www.simplehelp.net/2008/11/06/how-to-use-foobar2000-to-convert-audio-files/
