As per my earlier thread - here is BMG's response:

Virgin give BMG hell [theregister.co.uk].

Enjoy it whilst it lasts.

Paul.

Great! Now I can listen to my Natalie Imbruglia unimpeded... Well, I guess you'd better watch what you wish for.

The best part is that it's costing them a lot of money to fix. Mailers and repressing the discs. Nice.

I wonder if it really bugs them to repress and stuff. Not sure but considering the prices of media and all I have this impression that they make loads of proffit anyways. Unless I am very mistaken the price of CD's has stayed much the same over the years even when media got dirtcheap.

Dunno though. Still it is a nuisance and perhaps ... just perhaps they will get the clue. Then again, hasn't stopped similar ideas in the past. And give me credit for not naming the company whose name is often abbreviated with two letters.

Cheers,
Hans

Remember that it was never the media itself that represented the main costs. It was always printing, distribution, marketing, etc.

Yeah, I remember back when CDs first came out. They were quite expensive ($15 or so vs. $8 for a tape or vinyl), but the recording industry promised that the prices would go down once CDs were popular enough for them to be made more cheaply. We all see where that went, as new albums on CDs now list for about $19 and tapes (and vinyl when you can find it) for about $12. Thanks, RIAA.

Woohoo. I just had 2 Big Macs today for $2 Canadian! :)

Ok, back to the thread. :)

I just recently spent about $90 on 4 new albums. Last month I spent $100 in one afternoon on eBay buying used albums. But I bought over 20 of them (ok, and 3 or 4 singles).

Yeah the Big Mac Index is a good economic indicator until McDonalds starts doing the "2 for $2" special or whatever. Good thing our markets are based on more accurate measurements.

At the last place I was working at, they were doing daily comparisons of Big Mac pricing around the world, and were serious about using it as an economic indicator. No joke - they are proprietary market traders (i.e., they gamble with their own money) so to take it as seriously as that means there is some truth in the "Big Mac Indicator".

Mind you though, they made a big loss 1st Q this year, tee hee....
