I don't remember seeing any such poll on here, and I've been curious as to what other people prefer. So, here it goes:

I should have added to my post what I have it set to. I'm a 100% guy. In fact, all my dash lights are set to minimum and my empeg glares out into the cab

I'm a 100% guy as well. I want my empeg to be as bright as possible.

I can't remember what I have mine set to. But I voted for 70% just cuz it felt appropriate. With whatever setting I do have, it lights up fairly bright and seems to match the look of the VFD during daylight.

Is this supposed to be the night-time setting? I always use 100% during the day.
Night is around 70%, but would probably be around 50% if I used the blue screen it came with.

Has anybody noticed that even at 100% it doesn't seem to be at full brightness?
My empeg is bright when it first turns on (logo screen). When the player starts up, the screen dims down a little, although my daytime setting is 100%.
Ah, yes, I have checked that it's not thinking it's night...

I sometimes get quite odd behaviour with the dimmer. Sometimes it's much dimmer than it ought to be (a reboot often fixes this, but turning the lights on and off doesn't). It seemed to be much more common with beta3 than beta7, but it still happens occasionally.
I got it last night, but didn't check whether I get the same non-linear response to the adjustment that happened with beta3. (e.g. 30% much brighter than 40%).
Is the dimmer hardware-controlled, or software? Could it be interacting with the greyscale stuff in some way?

TMS13 and Armin: You guys are not the first to report odd behavior with brightness on the player. I have never seen this happen on my player, and it sounds like something is wrong. Have you contacted support about it?

Not I - I always assumed this was a software bug. If I can get it to appear when I'm at the Wrestlers(1), or if it starts happening more often again, then I'll get proactive about it.
(1) If the Empeg guys give enough notice some day - our place has a canteen that opens around midday, so if they invite me at 12:30, it's too late! and I miss it

I had the same problem, and in my case is was a hardware issue, contact support, and David will probally get you to ship it to him, and he'll get you fixed right up.

Mine's a blue screen and I have it at 30% at night. I also keep my dash lights very low to keep my night sight at a good level. I've just been reminded that I have bizarre night vision anyway - I can see fine even when wandering round the house in the dark. That said, I do have stupidly powerful spotlights on my car to spot oncoming deer, grannies etc.

I've noticed the dimmer acting funny even when running on AC power. I have yet to install it in my car. Sometimes the display is noticeably dimmer then usual. Rebooting usually brings the brightness back.
Not sure if it's software or hardware.
I'm running 1.03.

I currently have mine at 50%. As in, only 50% of the screen works at 100% brightness.
This is all the time because there is something else wrong with the power detct function and it thinks it's always on mains power.
grr.
I blame harry potter. the last thing I was listening to was his audiobook and next time I got in the car, wham.
I am incontact with Hugo about all this.

I was playing with the dimmer yesterday. It seems to be a bit erratic. If I change the setting step-by-step from 0 to 100, it doesn't always get brighter with each step. When I get to 100%, it's not full brightness. Hitting the right button a few more times usually turns the brightness up more, but hitting it again may make it come down again.
I suppose the circuit for controlling this is not too reliable... But it doesn't look like a hardware defect to me. It certainly is not related to vibration or knocks on the player.

I had the exact same issue, and support ended up replacing the display board, e-mail [email protected] and tell them what is going on. Depending on how backlogged they are, it'll probally take them a week or so to get it back to you.
