Okay, so his birthday isn't for another month or so, but I just couldn't wait that long.
Hijack v234 is out, and it will break your config:
all Hijack menu options need to be set up again.
Hijack now steals 16-bytes of flash instead of just 8
The left/right delaytime is stored separately for AC and DC power
The ButtonLED illumination setting is stored separately for AC and DC power
New "fake" button codes for remote-use and IR mappings: VolAdjOff, VolAdjLow, VolAdjMed, VolAdjHigh, and HijackMenu
The config.ini names have changed for the voladj parameters. The new names are the same as the new buttons: VolAdjLow, VolAdjMed, VolAdjHigh. You will get config errors if you have the old names in your config.ini
The voladj parameters can now also be set remotely, using /proc, FTP, and/or HTTP. Same syntax as config.ini
The built-in HTTP playlist browser now uses NODATA for it's Play buttons.
Some examples:
Turn VolAdj on (medium) remotely: http://empeg/?NODATA&BUTTON=VolAdjMed
Change VolAdj parameters remotely: http://empeg/?NODATA&VolAdjMed=0x2000,409,0x1000,27,70
That should be enough to get started with.
Happy (early) Birthday, Tony!

Oh, and I forgot to mention this new feature:
ButtonLED brightness dims when headlights are on (non-configurable at present.. I want to play with it tonight to see if it needs tweaking).

Hey, Mark, the buttonLED brightness, when set to MAX, doesn't seem to be as bright as it was before at max level. At least to me on my system at the moment on AC power. Is it possible that it's pulling the dimmed value from the car mode or something?

Yup, it's as I suspected. The button dimming is working the opposite of the dimmer line (at least in my case).
On AC power with no dimmer line connected, it's dimmed the buttons.
In the car with the dimmer line connected and my headlights turned ON, it runs at full brightness.
In the car with the dimmer line connected and my headlights OFF, it runs at the dimmed brightness.
Since the player has no way of knowing whether the headlight line goes low or goes high when I flip my headlight switch (different cars do it differently), it simply remembers the two different states and stores them in the "dimmer" area of flash. One value for high, one value for low. So is Hijack trying to detect which is which? If it were me doing the coding, I'd read those to flash values, and when the headlight-line's state changes, then behave depending on which flash value is greater than the other.

Yeah, the sense line is inverted from what I first guessed. Fixed in v235 (shortly).
Note that the dimmer-sense is used on both AC and DC modes, because at least a few people have indicated they wanted dimming to work on home docking stations..

It's not quite that simple to do inside Hijack. So instead, I may just add another hijack config.ini option for it.
But in the meanwhile, I've reversed the polarity of the sense.
v235 is now out.
Still poking around.

We better hit that other thread and email some confirmations.
I'm thinking of packing my soldering iron as well, in case there are any homeless button kits present at the meet..

If you must know it is Jo for my Scottish great-grandmother. Maybe I will buy a button kit if you plan on doing some soldering. Will save me from mailing it to the great white wild north.
Any wolves up there where you live?

Sent my confirmation in for the Boston meet.
There is a place about 50 miles from here called The Red Wolf Sanctuary that I have been to a few times. They are beautiful animals, coyotes are cool too. "Pinga", I like that.

There's a breeder with a colony somewhere in the White Mountains.
Pinga is from that group, and her uncle, Loki, was the pick of the crop. He passed on a couple of years back (age 10), but was one heck of a beautiful creature. Chest high, very massive, intelligent, awesome memory. Pinga is much more light hearted, and a bit smaller (being a lady).
You bringing your street launcher, or still undecided on that?

Not sure if I want to drive it that far, at 10 mpg the gas would cost a fortune. Would be a fun drive though. I'll probably drive my boring Dodge Caravan, it's my work vehicle but I can drive it that far as long as I mention it first. I'll have to empty it out so I don't lug all of the equipment with me. Wouldn't have room for my luggage if I didn't.

Well, the lit buttons worked out very well on the road tonight (3.5 hours Ottawa to Toronto).. a lot less fumbling in the dark. And the headlight dimming tie-in seems OK, too.

Yes, for me, too, as well. The brightness level of the "headlight-dimmed" buttons is perfect, no need to alter it from the defaults.
I had one incident shortly after startup on the way out of the garage, where it seemed to get confused about the line-state and the buttons were dimming incorrectly. I don't remember whether they were toggling between "off" and "dim" or if they were toggling between bright/dim but doing it backwards. But they were toggling wrong, I was sure of it, and had to correct it by rebooting (pull/insert player).
I have not been able to reproduce the toggling bug, and I tried. I don't know the conditions required to reproduce it, but it wasn't a big deal.

I was thinking that if the weather cooperates and you remain interested (and are in reasonable physical shape etc..), we could stop in for a day or two near New Paltz NY after the meet. In climbing circles, the area around New Paltz is known as "the Gunks", a world-class destination climbing center. My current BBS pic was taken there last fall.
You'd need a sleeping bag (cheap tenting there), sleeping pad if you have one (I have spares), track pants or similar, and a warm sweater that can get dirty if need be. Oh yeah, and the bravery to tell me your street shoe size..
I've been trying to get one or two of the other (rock climber) Empeg meet attendee's interested in this, but no takers thus far.

If I were creating an HTML page with FORM tags to submit these parameters, how do I get the "NODATA" thing working?
When I try (input type=hidden value="" name="NODATA"), an equals sign appears after NODATA, causing an error.

Tell your FORM to use the GET method (rather than POST).
I'm not sure how to get your web-generator to just put NODATA instead of NODATA= though. I'm very retro.. I do all of my web stuff with vi.

What happens when you just include the "?NODATA" as part of the form URL? (probably get another '?' character, right?).
If it still buggers up, I'll have khttpd tolerate the '=' after 'NODATA' -- v237 (later).

v234 release notes stated that Hijack settings need to be reset. This is because Mark hijacked more flash memory for saving settings (A Good Thing), but in the process the memory map changed, so your previous settings are garbled.
You would have seen a "Hijack Settings Lost" message on the screen at first boot.
Just go through and reapply the settings and you'll be all set.

Sounds like fun, but I am just wondering how hard it would be to go having no real climbing experience, just wall climbing and climbing short distances on smaller rocks.
Definitly let me know if you ever plan on going somewhere near Colorado Springs, as Garden of the Gods has always called to me since I wall climbed quite a bit a few years back.

Drakino, you have more experience than I and I'm going to give it a try. I used to climb trees when I was growing up, bout the only thing I have climbed since then has been stairs.
Maybe I will see if there is a inside wall around here for me to try so I can get a feel of what to expect. Even if I chicken out at the last moment I can sit and watch you guys climb and make fun of you

When is this proposed meet? And what difficlutly are the climbs? I haven't been in a while, but I still know how to operate most of the gear. I've never done lead, but I'm assuming since novices would be present, this would be strictly top-rope.

The meet will be in the boston area first or second Saturday in May.
I've been doing some planning/organizing on it, seems like the interest level is rising, the thread on it is here
mlord are you definately bringing that soldering iron of yours to the meet? If so, I'm buying buttons immediately. I've been hesitant since I've never even held a soldering iron in my hands before.

Like dcosta said, this meet would be in the Boston area (TBD), most likely May-11. I'm going from there to New Paltz afterwards, where I'll tent out and climb for a few days. Laura may be joining me/us there.
If anyone else wants to try it, they're welcome to come along. But for this to work (with more than one newbie), I'll need another climber to supervise the belaying (I'll provide intro/refresher as needed).
Climbs there range from insanely easy to insanely difficult, but most everything is lead/follow (even the 5.0's). There are some TR routes, but multipitch is really the game. I have no problem taking a couple of newbies up a multipitch 5.0, so long as another climber is on the tail end supervising the belays.
If you (Bruno) can make it, that'd be excellent!
Should be fun (weather co-operating..)
Cheers

This discussion is for the Boston meet.. I hadn't noticed any replies (yet) to my query about the West Coast meet.

>mlord are you definately bringing that soldering iron of yours to the meet?
I'm still thinking about it. Do ya reckon we'd have a place to plug it in for a couple of hours?

Yah, that's it, my 73 NovaSS. That picture was taken my first time at the track for test and tune day. It's to small to make out the number written in the window but it was "69". I'm going to try cutting that picture down so it will show up a little better.
Does the solder iron by chance have a cigarette lighter adapter?

No, no lighter adaptor. Unless someone has a 12VDC-120VAC inverter? (I don't really want to pack my UPS as well!)
But perhaps dcosta will find us plug in Boiston, then I could do his and yours between drinks.

As long as you do mine after the first drink. After 5 or 6 you might be so steady as to solder those tiny itty bitty peices. I'll have to order a kit soon.

Tony...HTML forms do not allow what you are trying. Write a note to the W3C...mayber there is an Empeg owner there that could push that through for you...lol

Well, give it a try Tony, and if indeed it doesn't work, I'll grind out a new version for ya.

May... Damn. That's tight. I do love Boston though. I'll have to see how things are moving on the moving front.
I haven't been climbing in a long while. Still remember how to belay (with a few pieces of gear - most often used a grigri though). However, have never done lead or multi-pitch. I gradually stopped climbing before a couple of my friends started on to the lead stuff. I'd be really embarassed if I got out there and couldn't complete a 5-9.
Hmm... Wonder if my shoes still fit. I can ask a buddy of mine if he'd be interested in the trip. He doesn't have an empeg, but he's got plenty of climbing gear and experience.

Might also want to try using a "Button" input type instead of submit and using the JavaScript void(0) method that CharcoalGray99 is using to send requests to the player without refreshing the page. You would basically build up the request string on your own through a js function, and request it.
I bet if you look at cg99's js include file, you'll see an example of this.

Yeah, I know how to do that, I was just hoping to avoid using "Satan's Own Language" for this simple test-my-voladj-settings page.

I believe the Javascript void(0) is a thing of the past at this point, replaced by NODATA in most/all places.

I know I'm likely to be the only one that this would affect given the anti-Microsoft sentiment, but...
I cannot get WMA files to stream. This is likely because the player expects MP3s.
Should the system handle this situation and not try and stream these files, or is there a way to get this working?

If you can figure out exactly what WinMediaPlayer wants to see for "streaming" playlists, I'll consider tweaking Hijack to provide it (esp. since I already have streaming .mp3, .wma, and .wav for WinAmp working, and most of that works with XMMS aka "LinAmp").
Have you tried simply switching to WinAmp as your player?

I just upgraded my winamp to the latest version and still no go.
It gets the file info but doesn't play anything. MP3 streaming occurs normally.

I won't be at the US meet, but if you (or any other climbing BBS regular) are passing through England or Wales (or even Scotland if I'm keen), get in touch. Even if it's only to play on my little bouldering wall in Cambridge.

Cool. I was thinking of heading over that way in late June, but the plans got side-tracked.
