I may have found a new bug.

This morning after getting out of class I tried to start my car and both of my mufflers exploded in a fiery mess. I'm not sure if it was Empeg related, but I figure I'd warn you all.

If more people's mufflers explode I think we have a potentially deadly bug... or maybe my car is just a POS

by the way... I'm just kidding obviously, but the Empeg was unharmed ... it was in my bookbag though so I couldn't tell you if it could keep playing after a shockwave that set off a parkinglot full of car alarms and sent campus police out running to my car like I was a car bomber.

School, huh?

Search the nearby area for things that might have been used to plug your exhaust holes as a prank. Got any enemies?

ooh, I didn't think of that. I doubt someone at this campus did it. The only people who go to this particular campus are Police officers in training (I hope they wouldn't be doing this), Nurses in training, and CISCO students (me).

WOW. I've never heard of that happening. Thanks for the pics. Sheesh. So no clues on what would cause that??

I did that once in my mustang. I pushed down on the gas pedal and the engine hesitated for a few seconds before kicking in. With the amount of gas that got into the engine, it backfired like you wouldn't believe. Blew my muffler apart. Scared the hell out of my friend in the car. But I knew exactly what had happened.

Yeah, my leaky carb must have filled up the engine while I was in class and then... BOOM!

Apparently this is somewhat common in cars with high-performance engines. The guy who explained what happened to me said he knew a guy who routinely blew his entire exhaust system off his car a few times a year.

plugged exhault would most likely stall the engine. I would have hated to be anyone standing next you your car at the time. You drop the mufflers and they drop their lunch.

..hopefully less common in cars with high-performance turbo charged engines - could get expensive!

i think with new fuel-injection engines this wouldn't happen any more
