Hello all,

I just bought a Peugeot 206CC, and figured out that the installation angle for the DIN-size hole will be something between 20-30 degrees. No way to flatten this angle.

Now I've some options:
- This angle is not that bad, so continue installation. However: the installation manual/FAQ states 0-16 degrees.
- Do some little modification inside my Empeq Mk2-A, so that the harddisk angle is compensated for this (so shock absorbant system in Empeg works on this angle)
- Mount the Empeg in de dashboard locker and, of course, live with that limitations (not one of my favorites...).

Any suggestions?

My dash actually tilts forward (that is, the emnpeg's face points toward the ground, not toward the sky) and I've had no issues. I don't see why you would, either, unless you mostly drive on awfully bumpy roads.

I'm living in the Netherlands where the roads are generaly in good condition. Of course not taken in account those stupid sleeping policeman in the roads. ('sleeping policeman' ?!?! is this correct for a small rise in the road you find in residential neighbourhood?).

I think I take the risk. Anyway... if something gets broken, it's the HDD which is (compared to the Empeq unit) quite cheap.

About your dash... tilting forwards is realy strange. What car you have?

In English, that's a ``speed bump''. (Well, American English, anyway. I don't know what they call them in Britain.) ``Sleeping Policeman'' is pretty funny, though. I'll have to start using that in everyday conversation.

I have a 1987 BMW 325e. It doesn't tilt down much. Five degrees at the most, I'd say. I've always assumed that it was to avoid glare off of the stereo's face plate, and it certainly does that well.

They're referred to as "Sleeping Policemen" in the UK. Maybe less so these days, but definitely when I was a kid.

I've got a Peugeot 405, and the mounting angle is pretty similar - about 30deg. It's been installed for about 6 months (around 10-15 thousand miles) at that angle with no problems. I think that's a lower risk than taking my player to bits!

I think the manual's recommendation is on the cautious side. However, if it does break your player, you've got no comeback! I believe that disk failures (which is the most likely eventual result of too much shock at the wrong angle) tend to give a bit of warning (noisy bearings etc), so you'll have the chance to recover your tunes and put them on a replacement drive.

If you've got stiffened "sport" suspension, or do a lot of offroad driving, then believe the manual; for road driving in a standard hatchback, then I think 30 degrees is not going to hurt.
