As posted by the BBC:
A streaker caused a security alert when he ran in front of the Queen's Rolls Royce during her visit to Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Big security risk here obviously. It's so easy to conceal a weapon on a naked body. Did they think that he was going to try and shoot her? I doubt he had the necessary range

Let's just hope that the Brits don't get a rash of Ray Stevens songs as a result of the incident. (Shudder)

It is funny, granted.
No concealed weapons, but how did anyone get that close, (un)dressed so conspicuously? Even if the person was wearing a long coat or something, that should still tip off security that something is amiss... Better yet, if the person was clothed, I would think stripping in public would get security's attention.
Either way, someone wasn't paying attention.

Sorry this is off topic in your (off) topic, but could someone from over the pond tell me what the royal family really does these days? Do they have any function in the gov't anymore? Or are they more of a reason for british tabloids to exist? I am really ignorant here so please don't take offense if you hold them dear to your heart.
Also what the heck is their family surname? All I ever hear is Queen Elizabeth this and Prince Charles that but never their last name!

The Queen has a political function but choose to hand responsility for its execution to the Prime Minister. In practice the Queen is a figurehead.
The royal family have two main uses now:
1. Attracting tourism - a LOT of it
2. International diplomacy (although the Japanese might not agree)
Their surname is Windsor, or Windsor-Mountbatten in full. It's got nothing on Hugo's full surname (no, I can't, he'll kill me, you'll have to google for it!).

Hmm, no luck there. Did find Hugo's home address though...

It's not as dull as "De Fiennes" is it ? (the De Fiennes seem to have been very popular in Somerset).

I'm not having much luck tracking it down either... although I have found out lots of other various things...
primrose$ finger fiennes
Mr H Fiennes (estbzal) is not presently logged in.
Last seen at lupin on Mon Jan 27 02:38:50 1997 from downwind
And also, what he did for his third year project at Uni:
http://www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/people/academic/Steve.Matthews/projects/handbook/9/titles/CSE1997.html
A web page made by him I never knew about...
http://www.cryton.demon.co.uk/me/me.html
(Although it does have a link to the MP3mobile, which was how I found out about empeg...
Also, a whole load of stuff for the Acorn, which I never knew he did, but used almost all of...
Asking various networking questions...
Christ, he's even got a virus named after him... (search for 'fiennes')
He's (or someone with the same name) also got his name on a spacecraft!
And, OK, this is scary, he even ran a BBS that I used to connect to...
But I can't find out his full surname for the life of me

Almost the exact opposite of what everyone else said, "Hugo, loose the ridiculous rug" was one of the comments. Anyway, it wasn't mine, Wendy was just growing it on me at the time

I think the main reason these days that we have a single, hereditary, head of the legislature, judiciary, executive, armed forces and church is to annoy Americans.
It's got nothing on Hugo's full surname

Now *that* is scary (apart from you obviously being at Warwick, where I was wandering around last weekend)
(a) Why I still appear to have some sort of login on lupin (!)
(b) Why I was logged in to lupin at 2.38am from a local workstation. Ah... I remember, I didn't have a life

In reply to:

This is odd - especially as, as far as I can tell, lupin hasn't even existed for quite some time. Certainly not in the last 2 years, as far as I'm aware...
And yes, I'm at Warwick, for my sins. What were you doing wandering around - you won't catch me within 10 miles of the place after next year.
Cheers,
A.

I was just in the area and went back to check that Cholo still smelt of stale beer, the arts centre still had attractive brown paint on the outside and that the business school side was continuing its exponential growth rate.
All appeared to be well.

Does that mean your name is well known, and it is Eric? Or that your name is well known and you are talking to Eric?
I know, pointless, silly question, but hey - it's nearly home time. Wheeee
