The only time a user was banned on this BBS was when they tried to upload a PHP coding exploit. They were not a participant of the BBS, they just logged on the one time in an attempt to execute the exploit. So if someone got banned just for being an asshole, it would be a first.

On the other hand, his attempt at using the BBS as free web server bandwidth might be considered by some as abuse and therefore deserving of a ban. But that's not my decision to make, I've left that up to Paul.

I think LyingbastardMF is a lot more offensive than Yzzywuzzywhatver. The latter kind of comes across as that younger brother you want to smack in the face sometimes but don't because you know he'll get it together eventually. I don't think any harm was intended by the HTML thing, it was just a bit dumb.

I agree. I am not the biggest yz33d fan, but I would not want him banned. He (like usual) didn't mean any harm, but just didn't anticipate others responses to his actions.

It's just that his posts have either been really stupid or aimed at insulting someone, but usually both. I may be mistaken, but I thought this bbs was to bring together fellow empeg users and help people out. Yzz3d seems to be trying to do just the opposite of that. I'm sure there are plenty off bbs's that he would fit right in with where he wouldn't have to annoy the hell out of us.

I am curious to know weather banning him will keep him from being able to read any posts. I'm not interested in taking away his ability to use this site for information, just his ability to create posts of his own.

Yeah. Banning by IP, username or email address just doesn't work unless you've got some way of positively identifying somebody. Not unless you're willing to enforce really broad bans which are quite likely to affect other legitimate users.

Banning by IP address/subnet used to be fairly effective until ISPs started to use DHCP with really large dialup/ADSL pools that are owned by a larger company.

Yeah, I tried voting 'No' twice as well.... I hope he doesn't leave - with a bit more sensitivity and humility most of his posts would have been seen in a more positive light.

I would have no problem with him sticking around either if he would show more decency in his posts. Everyone has a right to thier own opinion, but they don't have to shove it down everyone elses throat. I don't know him well enough to dislike him as a person, I just dislike how he has said what he has posted
