Today, after installing the lastest HiJack kernel, I tried to connect to my Mk2a using HTTP because I want to be able to stream my Mp3's through Winamp.
It doesn't work and I don't know why.

According to the FAQ, I need to enter "http://my.players.ip?playlists" to access the built in http server.

So in IE6, I type "http://192.168.123.117?playlists" , but that connection just times out, saying 'Server unreachable'.

I know I'm using the correct IP adress since that's the one I've used with my FTP client to update the Hijack kernel in the first place. (it's the one showing in the "about" box on my empeg).

I'm not using a static IP, but ethernet broadcast. Has this got anything to do with it?

What am I doing wrong? Am I forgetting something?
I've searched the FAQ and this board but nothing useful came up.

Greetings!

A few questions:

a) Do you have commands disabled through your config.ini file?
b) Can you telnet to your ip address port 80 and get a connection / result? (example: telnet 192.168.x.y 80)
c) Do you get any http working at all?

If your player is on 192.168.123.117, then what is the IP address of your PC?

It should be 192.168.123.something so you're on the same subnet. If not, then make sure that your PC and the player are on the same subnet.

Another possibility is that you are using a proxy or firewall of some kind. If that's the case, you need to tell IE to skip the proxy for local addresses and perhaps even specify all 192.168.123.* addresses should be skipped.

Hi Paul!

a) Do you have commands disabled through your config.ini file?

I guess not. I have never changed my config.ini file. To be sure, I've pulled my config.ini file from my player and looked at it with ultraedit, but I don't see anything that (I think) should matter being disbled.

b) Can you telnet to your ip address port 80 and get a connection / result? (example: telnet 192.168.x.y 80)

If I enter that command in a Command box the screen goes black and nothing happens. So I guess not. (I'm sorry if I'm doing something wrong, but I've never used telnet before) BTW, I'm using win2000.

c) Do you get any http working at all?

What do you mean by that? If you mean : can you do regular internet surfing, then yes, no problem whatsoever. If you mean : if you try to connect to the player using http, does it at least do something ?, Then no, nothing but showing me a timeout.

Well, checking with ipconfig/all shows the following data :

IP adress : 192.168.123.159
DHCP server : 192.168.123.254 (router)

I told IE to skip the proxy for all 192.168.123.* adresses, and it WORKS!

Thanks Tony, you da man!

Also, thank you Paul for trying to solve the problem!

You're welcome, that'll be $20.00 please.

Loren, is this one in the Hijack FAQ anywhere?

Greetings!

I am glad it worked out. Didn't even think of proxy settings in the browser. Cool!
