Good analogy, although it depends upon what it is you're doing and how often you're doing it. If you're fixing up a spot on your knackered old car there's little point shelling out for the gun and compressor if you can go Halfords and buy a tin of touchup paint, likewise if you spray cars for a living you're not going to be doing it with crappy spray can.

If you want to do the job properly then have to pay through the nose for the proper crimper (as I said in an earlier post) otherwise you might as well use a pair of pliers.
