Turning up the mouse speed would make the mouse pointer move farther, but without any finer degree of resolution or sensitivity. In other words, by turning up the mouse pointer speed, you get a larger movement from the same arc, but it's coarser movement. (Fine resolution for gaming is what we were talking about here.)
