Hello,

I read somewhere that the next version of the software will allow us to browse through our playlists within the player software itself using the soup views we currently have in emplode. Does anyone have any more information on this? I think this would be a TREMENDOUS help for a lot of us. I have my music sorted by my genres (rock, rap, classical, etc) and would like to keep it that way but also be able to browse by artist (without doing a search.) Anyway, just basically wanting to see if anyone knows anything more about this.

No. We've said we'll do it at some point in the lifetime of v2.x (e.g. v2.1 or something), but it's not going to happen until after v2.0-final. And who knows when that'll be ready?

I browse by artist all the time. Just make Artist playlists. An example of doing this is shown here.

You can, if you like, have the artist playlists be in two places: Both beneath the Genre playlists as well as all grouped under a "by artist" playlist. And if you do it correctly, they'll be the same playlists. You don't have to create two sets of artist playlists, just copy them: when you copy a playlist, it's just another link to the same playlist. Details here.

Yeah, v2.0-final is approaching "Duke Nukem Forever" status in vaporware history.

Call me ignorant...but couldn't one of the wonderful programmers on here (like Mark) do this while we wait for it to be implemented in the actual empeg software? I mean, it's not like you have to generate a whole new database. All the data is stored on the empeg. Of course, if it's really so much computing power to generate the soup views on the fly, couldn't somebody program something that ran on sync (like maybe in jemplode) that would generate a database containing the soup view information, then hack a new menu (like the Hijack menus) that would access this new database with the proper set of pointers (and FIDs).

With all the other utterly amazing hacks I've seen, this seems like it would be a piece of cake.

With one important difference: We have a playable public beta.

That's a little easier to be happy with when you're running the non-public alpha version with important bug fixes.

Any reason why when searching via remote under playlists when I press 'P' I get the artists that start w/'P' but if I want to drill down to say Pink Floyd by then pressing 'i' instead I get all artists starting with 'I'?
In artist search mode this works but not if I try this directly from the playlist menu.

Correct. The main menu key selections, and the search screen, work differently.

I realize this but as a wish on the wish board would rather the search function under the playlist menu myself. I stopped using the search function while driving & pretty much don't do any searches anymore at all. I tended to go past the intended search parameter having to to go back around again taking longer to find a particular artist, album or song.
