Here's an odd problem I experienced. It has not re-occured,
fortunately. Have others seen this?
(2.0Beta11, stock kernel (I'm 95% sure this was before I went to Hijack)).

The player will make a strange beep through the speaker once every few
minutes. Meanwhile the front panel controls go dead (and I think the
remote becomes ineffective as well), but the player keeps on playing.

Depower/Repower and all was well again.

I've heard others report of occasional lockups, but the beeping thing
seems to be unusual. Has anyone else seen this?

First off, congrats on the new empeg. (I was "the name tag guy" at the meet)

The only time i've ever heard of this was Mark Lord's comentary on beeps and how hijack handles them. Apperently, hijack uses the same beep code as the player software, so it's concivable that if you have a player beep and a hijack beep at the same time, that an unknown behavior will occur which may screw up your empeg. No one has ever experienced this, however, as far as I know.

Probably not your problem as you don't even think you had hijack installed, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Greetings!

It sounds almost as if the player received an IR signal from the remote or control panel. Do the controls ever come back, and what is the players behavior when / if they do? If it continues, you might want to try hijack with the IR display options on, so you can see if you are getting inputs.

Also, check your fascia. If it is on too tight, you might be causing on of the buttons to stick.

I was haveing the same thing happen, I spoke wiht a friend who has had his player for two years and he never heard of it.
It was left in the player and not removed, every three minutes it would blink and pop for a second. After teh upload to th enew version , the prob was gone. Still dont know why thisi happened, but must have been a glitch in the program???

This sounds like the old "Stuck Jiffies" bug, which is a known bug in 2.0 beta 11 and will be fixed in the next release (FITNR). You can also fix it right now by applying the Hijack kernel on top of 2.0 beta 11. Do you notice if the bug goes away after installing Hijack?

It's not the fascia, as I have never removed it.
And I have never seen the problem reappear with Hijack installed.
However, I only saw it once pre-hijack.
So I guess I'll just write it off as a strange variation of the stuck jiffies bug. I'll post again if the problem ever reappears.
