After spending the last 2 days replacing my motherboard and reloading Windows and everything else, now I am having problems uploading tunes to my MKl. I am using USB, it connects to the player and will upload the playlists but when it comes to the tunes it doesn't seem to be able to write them to the disc. I thought at first it was because the mp3 files became associated with Windows Media Player but changing them over to WinAmp didn't help.

Anyone have a clue where I should start?

It shouldnt matter what program the mp3s are associated with, but if the mp3s are set to read only the rio might not like it. If you did a backup of your mp3s onto cdrom and them put them back on the pc most cd burner progs make all the files on the disk read only. If they are you can just select all of them in win explorer and right click and unchck read only, this way you can do them all at once. I hope this helps.

The files were on another hard drive and weren't changed at all. The files aren't read only, I just checked, they are archived.

Also when I go to delete the songs since they won't upload, it moves them to a playlist by themselves. So I have to delete them from two different areas, the original playlist I am adding them to and the playlist it generates by itself. Very strange.

Try the other player on USB. Did you update your new motherboard with the newest BIOS and check the manufacturers site for new drivers and patches?

Did you try the usb on the second player too? If it uploads using the other player it would seem that it is a prob with the mk1. wich ver of empload are you using on the players, the same ?

They both use beta 2.11b and the emplode matches the player versions. I'm trying to upload by serial now and I will try the other player on USB, maybe that is flaky.

As was stated elsewhere in this thread, I would suspect the Windows USB drivers for that motherboard.

Whenever you re-install Windows, you have to spend some time getting all of the correct hardware drivers. One of the most common things you'll need is drivers for your motherboard chipsets, such as USB and IDE. If these aren't properly updated after a Windows re-install, you'll often have strange troubles like you described.

Ruling out hardware/disk trouble with the Mk1 is also a step you should take.

Also, after re-installing Windows, did you install Emplode BEFORE plugging in the player via USB? Sometimes if you plug the player in first, Windows will try to use one of its generic USB drivers instead of the proper Emplode driver for the player.

The correct drivers for the chipset are installed but I'll try removing them and reloading them. I got a song to upload through a serial connection so it must be the USB drivers. I put off reloading windows as long as I could but network neighborhood died on it last night so I pretty much had no choice.

Well, deleting the drivers in safemode and reloading them seems to have done the trick. The songs are uploading fine on USB. But now my network card has quit working again. Somedays I simply loathe computers

Well, I'm a tech and work on them everyday but I hate working on my own. Network card is back up, just needed to be shut off for a bit. After 11 hours at this I think I am done, finally.

I think I will start a big upload and go outside and play. And I took the day off of work to get my own working

Well I thought I had it solved. Seems either the network card or USB will work, one at a time, but not together. No conflicts listed but that doesn't mean anything. They are not happy campers sharing something. I'll work on it later.

Ahh.. perhaps they're not sharing the IRQ nicely.. maybe you can force them onto separate IRQs in the ControlPanel-System-Properties gizmo.

Turns out they're not even sharing the same IRQ. I can't seem to make sense of this motherboard. I get one thing to work and something else craps out. IDE controllers aren't working right now. Geesh.

Many hours later, they are on the same IRQ and working quite nice together. Makes no sense but hey, whatever works is ok with me. The USB would not work sharing an IRQ with a video capture card I have.

Sure, I'll be over in a few minutes.

PM me if you have any questions I might be able to answer and maybe there are a few tips I could give you.
