Slashdotted today. We have an ATi insider here. We should be breaking these stories! Anyway, the card looks vicious. May be time to upgrade soon.

Thanks for posting the picture, now I can see the horrid photoshopping job done to it.

Thats a standard 8500, extended with some image prgram to look like that.

Thing to think about, the 8500 GPU is 60 million transistors. It would be a bit costly to stick two of those on a board, along with all the needed support equipment. With the R250 and 300 on their way shortly, there is no point to releasing something like this.

Voodoo 2 SLI was a great idea, but expensive. The Rage Fury MAXX, same thing, nice idea, but a bit expensive initially.

The photoshopping is not that bad. It's obvious there is something not right about the image, but I think it looks good.

As for SLI, I was never able to afford the 2nd card. I still have my Quantum3D Obsidian card. I also always wanted one of those VooDoo5 cards with the dual chipsets as well. I hope this ATi card is real... even though it likely isn't. There's something very attractive about dual GPU video to me. And, I'm finally at a point where I can afford such things.

I had a Voodoo 2 SLI setup for a while (and will again once I build my "classic" gaming machine. I grabbed a Creative one day one for $300, and bought the second for $50 from Creative when they were selling a ton of refurb cards.

I also had a friend with a single PCI slot Voodoo 2 SLI card. Now that was a big card. Basicially glue two Voodoo 2 cards togther, but insert a DEC PCI bridge chip in the middle.

It's a nice idea, but the peformance gains probably aren't there anyhow. 2 8500's may very well be slower then the R300. Two R300 chips on a card would be awesome, but ATI has to milk us rich gamers first with just a single chip card
