Hi,
I've been trying to get the ftp server running on my empeg.
I've installed hijack 280. When i ftp to the ip address of my empeg in linux, i get this error ftp: connect: Connection refused
When i ftp from my xp pro box, i get this error
ftp: connect: Unknown error number

I've tried reinstalling beta11 and hijack 280. I couldn't find anything when i searched the bbs or the faqs. I thought there was a enable option in the config.ini but i couldn't find it listed on the faq.

No, the FTP and HTTP services are enabled by default. Simply installing Hijack should be enough.

Question: Is it a general ethernet problem? Can you connect to the player with Emplode via ethernet? General ethernet troubleshooting steps are here.

Hi Guys, thanks for the reply
I can connect via emplode over ethernet perfectly. My deck is set to grab an ip address from my dhcp server. The http and the ftp server seem to not be working. I've tried to reinstall the hijack image, this did not fix anything. Any ideas?

Is your player stuck in "Car" mode? The FTP and HTTP servers are disabled by default in Car mode.

Wow, i feel kinda stupid right now. I must have messed with my deck for about 4 hours last night trying to figure out why the ftp wasn't working. I was working on compiling my own kernel, then i saw ftp wasn't working. So i installed marks precompiled kernel thinking i messed up something, but then ftp still didn't work.

I didn't think to check the force ac/dc mode, because i just got my player back from Cambridge and this was one of the problems that david said he fixed. should i email him? or just see how it works in the future? Tony, thanks for your help, i didn't even think to check that setting

Don't worry about not thinking of it right of the bat, i should have cause my player has had these previous problems

Ok, now my ftp works, i can flash the kernel over ethernet from my windows box only. When i type
ftp zImage /dev/kernel_flash
from my linux box, i get this error
502 Not implemented.
Passive mode refused

My guess is i'm missing something, but it works from my windows command lline. What i'm trying to do is get rid of emailing my kernel to my windows machine so i can upgrade my player. I've tried for hours to get my darn serial port working in linux, but i gave up when i found i could do it via ethernet Any ideas?

Don't worry i spent hours trying to figure out why i could not get wireless ftp/http working in the car.

Changed the cable, changed the power supply for the wireless, moved wireless from boot to roof, changed sledge, scratched head tryed numerous options, discaover above and sowre a bit then went to bed.

Your FTP client is set to PASV mode. You have to turn that off in order to use the Hijack FTP server.

Loren, is that in the Hijack FAQ?

Well, what FTP client are you using? Try reading its man page and search for passive or pasv.

I'm just using the ftp command line prompt, I'll check the man pages. Thanks!
