Link behavior change?

I've noticed that links or attachments in messages no longer pop up a new browser window. Is this a permanent change for the board, or can this be changed back to the way it was?
I liked having a new window come up to go off browsing into - leaving the board window as I left it.

Don't know whether that this is related, but the links, highlighting colours, and smiley icons appear with formatting codes in the email. eg <colour;green:>.
But otherwise well done on the change.

I'll look into this more tomorrow, it wasn't intentional.
The subscription quirkiness is also confusing me, I'll have to talk to Paul about those issues.
Edit: I know what links your talking about now. All of my links lately haven't been pulling up new windows because I have reverted to using HTML in my posts, and not putting in the necessary code to pop up a new window. The thread in Off Topic about the Apple commercials shows this, as my links don't but the following reply does. Personally, I've gotten so used to middle clicking on links in Mozilla to open them in tabs now. It's rare for me to see that links open their own windows. I'll try to keep the non new windows to a minimum, as I know quite a few people like them.

I have reverted to using HTML in my posts, and not putting in the necessary code to pop up a new window.
Unless you have changed the permissions on the boards, only admins and moderators have the ability to put HTML in their posts. General users do not. We went through a pretty heated discussion on the topic when Paul and I standardized on this, so please don't change it.

I actually do not like it when a website tries to specify my web surfing behavior. If I click on a link, I expect it to open in the current window unless I specify otherwise.
IE: Shift-click
Mozilla: Ctrl-click for new tab
It's not hard to do this yourself.

I tend to agree. It's really easy to do, and my left hand is permanently situated on the CTRL+Z/X/C/V plane, so SHIFT isn't too hard
I've been wondering this for a while now, but I don't suppose there's a way to force a page to open in the same window, is there? Like if you know it's going to open in a new window and you don't want it to, you can X+Click and it'll work?

Yeah I agree with you. I know you can click and drag into the destination bar, but it's general web practice to not require this. So, for the odd site here and there, you have to find out the hard way and then remember forever that for THAT particular site, you have to click and drag... Unless you like have 3 windows open when you click from the empeg bbs to the reciever bbs and back.

If you're using Mozilla, go to Preferences, Advanced, Scripts & Windows, and deselect "Allow webpages to open a link in a new window".
If you're using emacs-w3, I think the option has been removed.
Other browsers, I don't know (apart from lynx, which doesn't do frames )

Right, as was mentioned elsewhere in the thread and also in the old thread where this was brought up the last time: Drag the link into the Address bar.

On this board, I prefer to have it open in a new window, but only because leaving the BBS in the middle of catching up on a forum is what most often causes the site to forget what I've read and what I haven't. If we could fix that problem, which seems to be half bug and half design flaw, then the standard behavior would make more sense. But, until then, I prefer to have it open new windows.
