all of the sudden a couple of the mp3 files are playing back really weirdly. all loud and horrible. What is the easiest way to scan my drives?

If your empeg has a virus, I'll be damned impressed. If your computer has a virus, I don't think it'd distort the mp3's without making them compleetly uninteligible.

Anyways, get a virus scanner. Macafee and Symantec are the two main competitors, I'd say. You'll have to pay money or have questionable morals to get ahold of either of them.

I use a free virus scanner called Avast that's not bad. I'm not really that concerned about viruses, but just in case my wife does something stupid....

You didn't say whether this was on the car player or on the PC.

If it's on the car player, what is the version of the software running on the car player? There was a known bug in version 2.0 Beta 3 (and possibly 2.0 Beta 7 though I'm not sure) which did this.
