SO I was happily listening to music in my office today when I remembered I needed to delete some files off the Empeg. I selected them in Emplode and tried to sync the player. Half way through the sync, the software froze on both emplode and the player. I unplugged the player and plugged it back in. It booted up but would not play any files I selected. I powered down then powered up again and got the "Can't find hard drive, contact support screen" I let the player sit then brought it home to re-upload the install file in the hope it would solve the problem.

During the upload, I get "Error “Bad pump response” occurred during stage 0x25”. " When I hook up terminal to it, I get the following

Now I know I am getting the error because it can't mount the hard drive but the upgrade tool doesn't seem to want to find the proper pump either. I have tried teh 2.0b11 and 2.0b7 images and nothing seems to load. SUggestions on what to do next? ANd if you suggest I use GetRight, I will need SPECIIFIC instructions on what to do. I don't think that is the problem tho because the player did work fine before unless it is not using the proper .upgrade file to load. Just grasping at straws there.

Pump error covered in the FAQ here.

You are having disk drive or cable trouble.

As I stated before, the FAQ says:
Try using the GetRight utility to re-download the upgrade file. See if that fixes it.

What are the specific instructions for using this tool to fix this problem? I am 90% sure it's a drive/software problem.

The FAQ also says "It has also been reported that a bad pump error can be caused by disk drive problems such as a bad disk drive, problems with the cable, or an inadequate power supply which doesn't provide enough juice to spin up the disk drives."

It then links this which is what I believe your problem to be.

Thanks for the clarification on that. I will check the cables and the HDs tonight. As always, you are right on top of things Tony.

I get these errors about every 2 weeks, have replaced ide cable. Its funny because the last time this happened i reverted to the original ide cable, seems to work for now. I dont know if I have more serious problems with the rio.
