Check this funky thing out..... any ideas???

Today I installed the new emplode, did some Windows Updates, installed some Norton IS and AV updates and updated Jemplode.... any clue what could be causing this???

I'm using an HP Notebook with Win2000.

EDIT: [ img ] not working?

I'd bet it's more likely to be something related to the Windows Update than any of the other things you installed.

Do you still get it after a complete power down and power up?

Yeah I do... it's really odd. I'm doing a virus scan now.

/me Praying that I didn't do both a Norton and a MS update without rebooting inbetween....

Another note: When I was ripping with EAC today, it had the "UUUUUUUU UUUUUUUU" selected as the Adapter. I noticed it and wondered if it had been there all along and I never noticed it before...

Could it be a currupt ASPI driver? I had the one from adaptec installed and maybe the Windows update currupted it?

Interesting theory. I'd roll with that for a while and see what you find.

Using the ASPI checker program (aspick.exe) I saw that all of the ASPI drivers seems to be installed and current. Yet when I viewed when they were last modified, it said 9:35am TODAY which is when I did the updates...

Digging a little further...

For any lurkers out there... reinstalling the ASPI drivers fixed it! Thanks for the encouragement Tony.

An update...

This keeps happening to me now if I have my machine constantly ripping w. EAC for a day or so... The only way to fix it is to remove the "new device", force an ASPI install and then power down. Rebooting doesn't seem to work...

Very odd...

Yuck... this still keeps happening with my HP notebook and Toshiba DVD-ROM drive... the drive disappears and new device UUUUU appears.
