My car is a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 351W engine pumping out about 400hp.

I have a 10GB MK2a which I got during the closeout sale.

The amp is a Hifonics Z700 5-channel running bridged 2-channel to a set of Dynaudio 7" mids and 2" tweeters, with a JL Audio 10W3-D4 sub in a sealed box. How about that dirty trunk! This is a daily driver.

The power distribution boxes are from an old install of a MK1 Empeg I did with my previous car. I was on the original list from 1997 and bought a MK1 when it came out, but had serious ground loop noise problems. I later sold it for a profit(!) on ebay - made about $200! Back then empegs were extremely rare and difficult to find.

The MK2a is 10x better than the MK1 in every respect - no speaker thump, no ground loop hissing, no noise whatsoever. Plus the software is so, so much better than it was originally. Finally, I paid $2000 for the MK1 and $200 for the MK2a, so obviously price is a huge factor!

Here's some shots of the interior:

I did the entire install myself from scratch - ran all the wiring, built the speaker pods, installed the underdash unit, re-wired the ancient fuse box. After my last install that featured neon lighting, plexiglass and all that other junk, I decided to go simpler and just enjoy the music this time.

Total investment in the system is well under $2000 and it certainly kicks hard enough to commute to work! Thanks go out to the empeg team for making a really rock-solid product.

Thanks, but it's finished enough!

I've been down that road of excess before - best to not travel it at all!

oh my god!
please don't take this the wrong way, but the empeg look so out of place in that dash, it like a clash of technology!
the wiring in the trunk looks great, a nice clen professional look

How did you attach it to the dash? If I ever get around to installing one in my 73 Nova SS I'm going to have to figure out how to do it. There is no din slot and it would have to attach to the bottom of the dash like yours did.

By the way, neat car even if it is a Ford.

Hey -- welcome back, it's been quite a while since we've heard very much from you, hasn't it?

Gee, it's too bad you can't afford a newer car, though -- it must be disappointing to have to drive that 36 year old beater around.

I used one of these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-qkrZGTcrlrA/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=11&g=752&I=120999000&o=m&a=0

It's a universal underdash mount. I didn't put it in the stock radio location because of complications in getting a DIN-sized radio in and out of that small space. Instead I'll be putting a bunch of guages in there after I pull the radio out.

Yeah, I've not stopped being a member of the board but after I sold the MK1 I was waiting for the MK2 to come around, then other things got my attention. Then the blowout sale happened and I couldn't say no to $200!

As for my old beater, I've got less than $5000 into it all told, including the stereo - and it gets just as many looks as a Ferrari would! Old cars are where it's at!

Thanks for the info. I'll have to remember that when the time comes.

that's pretty sweet.
I agree with the previous post about it looking out of place, but my god, who cares, that's an empeg in a classic ford, not quite as nice as the delorean empeg install, but anything ford especially like this is sweet

Thanks! I love old Fords and I love high-tech, so blending the classic 60's hot rod with some modern touches really hits home for me.
