I have a 2000 VW Jetta with the Monsoon system. Not sure how much this differs from the non-Monsoon, but here's how it went...

Originally I wanted to using the CD Changer input by putting a CD Changer in, and splicing into the audio inputs, running the CD changer outputs into the AUX IN on the Empeg. Then I decided this was silly, the empeg is replacing a changer like this, and for $300 I'd rather have a CD in dash.

With no hope of modifying the stock deck, I decided to buy a new head unit. It turns out the decks use "almost" standard ISO connectors, and a new Blaupunkt Nevada (in-dash CD) plugged right in with only a couple of wire swaps on the power connector. The speaker level outs run to the amp in the trunk. The empeg plugs into the aux in on the Nevada.

The great news is that the sound system in remarkably improved. The Monsoon amp and speakers actually sound really great, the stereo imaging is perfect. With the Nevada I have 2 channels of parametric EQ so I was able to boost 40Hz and 1000Hz to feel some bass and emphasize the midrange and am I am very happy. And the Nevada has a blue display and matches everything inside quite nicely.

I got ripped because I bought the deck at a stereo shop, but you can get them from crutchfield for $230 plus $13 for the line-in adapter.

Glad to hear the installation went well for you, Doug.

So the Empeg and the Blau fit nicely together in the factory dash openings? I'd love to see what that looks like. Post some pictures for us, OK? (Note, attaching JPG files to these BBS messages doesn't seem to work, so if you have any pics, post 'em to a web site and give us the URL instead.)

So now that you've got the Mark 2, are you now glad you sold me that Mark 1 oh-so-many-months ago? I'm really happy with it.

Cool, I have a 2000 Golf so it should be pretty similar. I would be interested in seeing some pictures of that if you wouldn't mind.

I have just installed the MK1 and another headunit (vdo dayton navigator) in a Golf IV and all went fine, I just have 1 issue, the Golf has 3 DIN slots, lowest is occupied by the 'Climatronic' air condition, 2nd is the VDO, 3rd is the empgeg. Problem is, between the top and middle DIN slot, there is no 'meat', both are just one big hole. Now when I install the two sled's, there is not much I can fix them with, they do not really sit very tight. So when I pull out the empeg, sometimes the sled comes with it. Have to find a way to get this fixed. Any suggestions ? Can post some pic's.

Anyways, they all got blue displays, so that looks cool with the blue dash light. Problem is, that's all different shades of blue but I don't really care.

The usual solution cambscar came up with on the mk1 was to rivet the sled in place (at the front, on the sides).

The mk2 has got a "lip" on the sides of the bay as it does on the top and bottom edges, which helps a lot in this scenario.

That sounds like a cool install. I would interested in seeing pictures of that if you could too.
