My Mk2's knob started slipping as soon as it warmed up a little... the FAQ says 'contact support for a new one', but I got my baby off of ebay and the original receipt shows that it's over a year old (and yet never used, apparently), so I had to come up with a fix of my own: A corner of a handy plastic bag... I just tore off the corner, put the resulting very thin piece of plastic on the shaft, and pushed the knob on... it did the trick, no more slippage. I'd imagine that a piece of plastic sandwich wrap would do as well, if for some reason you can't lay your hands on a scrap plastic bag... anyway, just thought I'd share...

I'm sure David ([email protected]) would have sent you the fix (just a small rubber band). The Empeg folks are good that way (well, they're good in every way). I'm glad that you were able to fix it to your satisfaction though.

(just a small rubber band)

It's more than just a rubber band. It's also a new cast knob that has a slightly different design. And yes, I'm sure David would send him the new knob if he asked (assuming that the player isn't on the list of stolen players).

I found that when I used the new knob, I didn't need the rubber washer at all. The new knob design was enough to keep the knob from slipping even without the washer.

However, because Brian's translucent knobs are made of a harder grade of plastic, I need the washer with those.

I think I only have the rubber band. How would I tell the old Mk2 knob from the new?

How would I tell the old Mk2 knob from the new?

On the original knob, the "vanes" which gripped the knob to the shaft were thin and flexible, like tiny little blades of grass. On the updated knob, they are solid blocks of plastic, like the teeth of a gear.

Yep - anything that I consider a manufacturing fault will be replaced/repaired regardless of warranty status. If it was something that the player would need to come in for, then I'd just charge for shipping.

And if it is stolen, you should get them to send it to you and then keep it. Bastards.
