Heeeeey, that's not bad at all. Very nifty. Good work.

Now, to figure out how to do something similar with the buttons.

Only one problem I have is that the web site says:

NOTE: if you manage to get it on really tight don't worry - the face will come off without removal of the new knob.

Maybe this is true for the plastic molded fascia, but the translucent lens won't come off unless you take the knob off. This is critical to doing some kinds of jobs on the player, so you have to make sure the knob can be removed without damaging the encoder.

smoke buttons'll help. maybe we have someone here who is capable of making metal buttons?

this is true. however, once the molded fascia is off there's way more room to grip it and slide it off.

Personally, I've never been keen on the "turned metal" style of knobs found on audio gear, and prefer a matt face. But each to their own.

What I do think would look totally cool is a carbon fiber-faced knob. But that'd have issues with the button LEDs

That looks way better than the default knob. Very nice. And I've never been keen on the Empeg style knob that you can't really get a grip on. Where to get the replacement knobs?

I like it!! Looks pretty sweet man. I got an alpine head unit running with my empeg and I think I just might do this. Do you know how much the knobs run? Here's a pic of my setup.

Thank you

I'd like to see the setup but the attachement picture does not seem to work. I paid 22.50 CDN for the knob.

Yes, the link works now. Clashes a bit because of the silver finish but nice nonetheless.

I see your empeg is wired as the slave thru the alpines AUX-In like my setup. Do you have the "cassette hiss" while the empeg is paused and the volume turned up? I'm very curious to know...my empegs volume is locked at 0db.

Jets,

Thanx. I kinda don't like the silver finish especially during the daytime. Looks decent enough for now though.

No cassette hissing. I too have my volume locked at 0db. Not sure what would be causing it but have you tried installing a noise filter? Good Luck with that.

That is nice. When I got my empeg for $300 I thought I got an el-cheapo model since the buttons and knob were so pathetically lame, but then I saw the full priced empegs had the same suck ass knobs and buttons. I guess they were trying to cut costs wheen designing the thing??? If I woudl have been willing/able to spend $1100 on an empeg, I would have easily spent $1150 for better buttons/knob..

ANywa good job, if I get the time some day I will try it myself..

With all the options of this product how can you complain too much about the buttons?

Hey....the Alpine knob looks fantastic on the Rio. I think I will have to follow suit and change mine as well...and I too have the Alpine CDA7878.
Funny you mention the 'hiss' you hear when in AUX on the Alpine. I have mine hooked up the same as you and I too have the same background hiss. I seem to get the best results though by turning down the volume on the Empeg to about -6db or so. Seems to sound cleaner as well like this...
