Ok, so I have my empeg and tuner both up on ebay. There are lots of people in Europe that would like to buy one. Does any American seller know what is involved in selling to European countries? If there really wasn't a high grief-and-agony factor, and the buyer agreed to incur all shipping charges, I'd probably do it.

I would really appreciate anyones input...

If you're shipping to Europe, the US Post Office is the way to go. There is much more agony with FedEx and UPS (from a business point of view).

There is a problem at the receiving end. There is a duty that must be paid based upon the type of merchandise that it is and the value of the article.

And Rob is correct. The Post Office is definitely the way to go if you'r going to ship to Europe.

Yup like they said.. USPS. Nobody else can touch them. However I don't like how there is no tracking option available. Most people I know want the value of the empeg wrote up for like $200 or so.

The other issue is payment. Will a money order work? What about a casheers check? I am not sure I'd accept a cc from abroad... Are people in Europe willing to send a money order, then wait for me to ship the empeg?

Hey who says you gotta lie? An empeg might be worth $100 to one person and $1000 to someone else. c2it.com or paypal usually works best on the payment side.

As someone you recently bought a empeg via this board, and living in Africa, I wouldn't trust USPS. Fedex/Ups/dhl are the way to go. Also, it's resonably cheap to ship from the US to europe.

Paypal or similiar is probably easiest for most people if you won't accept credit cards (but why wouldn't you)?

As for customs they can be real nasty (here in South Africa they charge on everything!). My 1st empeg I got from carplayer.com, they put the taxable amount as $89 but the invoice had the correct price.

Also (at least in SA) , putting it down as 'car spares' seems to be good.

Yep it is. But you don't understand how much they charge. There is like an import tax. Not sure what the percentage is but its HIGH.

The tax varies with different countries. In Norway it is 24%, and then something might have an additional import tax.... Anyone wonder why I try to reduce the stated price...? But if goods have a price less than 200Nok (~$26US) ex shipping, then we don't have to pay tax. I think this also is different from country to country.

It's kinda difficult to say that something is only worth $10 when you've just sold it for $500. For that to happen, a judge would be able to suppose that taking your $500 and giving you $10 in return wouldn't make you unhappy.

Sure, the way that most countries' customs work when it comes to value declarations in shipped items (trust) mean that they aren't likely to catch on to it, but the fact remains - if you happily sold it for $X, then that is it's true value to you. Now the buyer may consider if *more* valuable than the price he paid, but I don't think that's the issue here.

I actually figured this out. Let's say the empeg cost me $400. 1 years depreciation at 40% is $160. That means the empeg is worth $240 in real book value. Now the price that the market will bear, that's a whole other store.
