Just about every time I'm in my car messing with the playlists in my empeg I get a very loud and jolting warning that I have just been nailed for speeding by a cop using his laser gun.

Believe it or not this took me more than a few times to realize the reality of the situation.

Is there any way to keep this from happening?

heh, take your foot off the gas pedal when playing with the remote. but since that has nothing to do with the remote setting it off, ignore it.

That's the thing... it is the remote setting it off. Of course even some 3rd brake lights on some cars set it off. Particularly some BMWs.

oh well, I guess I can live with it.

Turn the V1's volume down?

Does your V1 have an IR sensor for laser radar? It's probably that infrared sensor on the V1 reacting to the infrared remote control.

Laser radar detection on a windshield-mounted radar detector is essentially useless. Even if you mounted the detector on the license plate or front grille of your car (where the cops aim their laser beam), it would simply tell you when you had been nailed, it would not prevent the citation. Because laser radar systems are always instant-on and aimed directly at the target vehicle, and because there is no "splash back" when it's being used on nearby vehicles, I don't see the point in laser detectors.

I think you should cover the IR sensor on your V1 with a piece of black tape. When I stealth-mounted my detector, I chose to simply leave the IR sensor buried without worrying about making a hole for it.

Sometimes it is usefull, not a laser detector but a detector + jammer. It's fitted near the front plate, and when it detects a laser over it, it generates a similar frequency to jammer the laser gun ray for some seconds, enough to let you down your speed.
In my conuntry, it's a problem since most of the times, cops shots you by your back, so you'd need an extra jammer...
I've tried several radar and laser detectors and none of them worked. So the solution is to light up your foot...
I've never noticed any interferece made by my Rio remote...

Correct, according to radartest.com, there is exactly one of these products which does work. My argument is that a windshield mounted laser detector is useless.

I love Pennsylvania: no front plate.

Here in Az we don't have a front plate either. Doesn't matter. 50% of my tickets are from front rader shots. The other 50% were from them trying to catch up to me.
