My wife came in last night, sad that she was getting "No hard disk found, contact support". I gave it a quick look, found no problem and sent her out with mine. This unit has had its IDE cable replaced. It was cold, so I hoped that might be it. Nope. Today I powered it up and still no dice.

So I opened my spare, swapped the drive cradles, and the spare sees both drives. I sent her off with that, put "hers" back together with the cradle fromt he spare, and it can't see that. I still need to flash a stock kernel on to be sure, and then I guess it gets a trip to the UK. A shame it didn't fail last week, or I could have shipped it to Cambridge from London

I had the same problem recently. A vice fixed my cable (put 1st connector in the vice).

One of my friends had this problem with his empeg. Turned out the IDE Header from the mainboard had a few broken connections, Took about 2 minutes to fix, thankfully another friend does mainboard repair for a living . His wasn't saying No hard drive found, it would just lockup at the empeg screen.

So look very carefully at the ide pins coming off the board, if they are cracked, then you have some bad headers. It’s very hard to notice, i'm quite surprised that i actually noticed them. Too bad my friend got his off ebay, i had to fix it for him, otherwise i would have sent it back to support.

1 more month of warranty for the most beloved device on the planet

His headers broken when he tossed his empeg onto his bed, it bouced pretty good onto the floor, and stopped working

Reason for this is the software version. Explanation here.

He was running beta 13 on his deck, it was freezing at lockup due to the hard drive only half working. 5 pins on the header were disconnected.

Of course, since the problem moves with the mainboard and not with the cable/cradle I can't use this fix
