I like Lord of the Rings.... but this article struck me as funny....

Some of those rants were kind of funny but a few just seemed like he didn't really watch the film like this one...

If you watch closely during the Inn scene, Frodo and his crew are shown getting stabbed by the Ring Wraiths. Then, five seconds later, they are fine again. Note to the director: try proofreading your movie before you release it to the public.

did he not realise those were pillows the wraiths were stabbing and that they were in a different frickin room???

Funny stuff though

First and foremost I'm a fan of the books and the film but strangely enough I kind of agree.... To a point.

The problem I see with the stories, and probably what this guy is trying to get at, is that Tolkien wrote a very boring series. I disagree that the story is bad but the way it was told in the books tends to make your head spin at times with little reward.

Tolkien just 'assumed' that the readers of LOTR would have the same depth of imagination that he did about his creation. I don't know about you but I don't have enough spare time to learn elvish languages or delve into secondary characters family-trees for the sake of an anecdote.

The overall fact is that the stories weren't ment to be black and white logic (hence the Wizards, elves, magic, fantasy thing.) The fact that this guy spent sleepless nights justifying the "walk to the Volcano" since he was 10 shows that he missed the point.

Is this guy serious? Does he realize that there was a book published in 1954 or is he just another bewildered Willow fan?

You do realize the whole thing is just a joke, right? People that respond and are pissed off at him ranting about his article is probably exactly what he's after.

I must admit, I don't really see the humor here, but it’s obvious he isn't trying to be serious. The comparison stuff to movies like "willow" makes that clear (I'm surprised he miss O-Bi-Wan as a Gandalf character in Star Wars). I do recall read “movie reviews” from a few people who earnestly stated that Tolkien "borrowed" his story lines from Robert Jordan. Another person said that Tolkien's work was based on "the cartoon of the same title done in the sixties." It's one of those "keep your mouth shut and let everyone think you're a fool, or open it up and prove it" kind of things.

Yeah.... it got me for a second cause some of them are fairly legit... the more I read... the more i realized that was kinda the whole point...
