Wow. I must admit their hardware looks good from the outside. Lots of really "good ideas".

I would be *very* interrested if I didn't already own an empeg... or har heard of the "New Empeg".

- The Harddisk is removable, and functions as a portable MP3 player when not in the car.
- You can choose a CD player and then use the harddisk as an external device
- You can have a CD-changer
- You can have the DIN unit control a "trunk mounted" unit full of MP3 files.
- Faceplate that hides the unit (not sure whether it is removable or just flips around)

But there is very little info on the webpage yet...

No price as yet either, and their online store sucks ass. You have to register to enter.

The image that they have looks as if they still use standard IDE disks, since it looks very deep.

That's what I was thinking, and that would definitely be a problem. I don't know about how well the IDE hard drives fare in rough vehicles, but my Empeg just nicely fits into my dash. Anything longer and it wouldn't fit.

Yeah, let's let this thread die, and keep it all in general. I think that the subject matter is on-topic enough for general. (Unless Tony/Drakino think otherwise...)

What do you mean? I'm assuming you mean the wiring adapters which let you plug a 2.5" drive into something intended for use with a plain IDE drive?

Yeah, I got some pictures of this unit at CES, and talked to their guys a bit. Seems like it's the closest thing to an empeg coming out on the market at the moment. I was rather impressed. I'll check the thread in General and see if I can contribute to the discussion.
