Just walked out to my car to go home to notice that my window was broken and, of course, the empeg, gone...along with a bunch of other things...what was the course of action we were to take in this event?

Pretty sure it was one of the high school a$$holes that work in the call center here at work...and I know I'm a damn fool for leaving it out there in the first place...

In addition to notifying the local police, Contact empeg support and give them your serial number.

Sorry if that last post sounded cold and aloof.

I am very sorry about your loss. I've been through two car thefts myself (before I owned an empeg), so I know how bad it feels.

You have our sympathies. Best of luck in recovering it.

Did they take the sled & tuner or just the empeg itself? If they went looking for a tuner or took the sled, they might know what it was, rather than just trying to take anything they could sell.

Ripped out the whole thing...there was no tuner, but one wouldn't know that beforehand...they did leave the fusable link/noise suppressor part of the wiring harness with the yellow wire, however, so I am pretty sure it was a smash'n'grab affair.

The thing that really pisses me off is that I've been unemployed (again) for the past 5 months...spending much of my time sitting here at home, streaming that player all over the house. I got a brand new job Wednesday and 2 days later my player gets stolen from the parking lot of that place...f#%kers! Who says unemployment sucks...I used too

Cops came tonight and dusted my entire car...

I had my truck broken into a few years back (Before I had my empeg) and the thieves took only my cd's sitting on my seat and left the stereo, speakers, amp, and radar detector in their. I guess they were in a hurry. They broke in through the back class by prying it open (I have a Ford Ranger and it picks open pretty easy) so I didnt realize that anything had happened at first. After I was driving for a few minutes I noticed my cd's were gone. Only then did I put the two together: Cd's missing + rear glass left open=thief in the night.

I was very fortunate that I only lost the cd's considering what was in the truck. When I finally called the cops and filed a report, they wouldn't take finger prints because they said I had left the scene of the crime and there was no telling who had touched my truck during that time.

Either you were lucky to still have prints taken or the cops here were just to lazy to do anything about it.

Well, they instructed me to go ahead and go home from work. Then 'the magical fingerprint lady' came. I tried not to touch anything along the way, and we did find some good prints, but I don't really think that they will belong to the perp.

the cops here were just to lazy to do anything about it.

When the cops drag their feet in burglary investigations, my brother found that letters with the word "lawyer" in it work real well. He has those X-10 cameras around the house and the college kids two houses down kept stealing beer and sodas out of the outdoor fridge. He put up signs that indicated video surv. and they still did it. Gave pics to the cops and told them who they were. Nothing happened until the laywer word showed up in correspondence. They were charged with theft and convicted... No wonder why my old neighborhood is going to sh!t... (Tempe, AZ)

Just recieved notice from my insurance that they MAY cover the player, I just have to provide enough information/links to support that it is MUCH more than just a music player for the car.

If you guys wanna help me gather info, that'd be swell

My car insurance covers stereos, including aftermarket. Part of my struggle was convincing them to pay me enough to replace it. I only spent $300 and it was no longer available. Eventually, after some struggling and a few heated words, they agreed with our reading of the policy.

My home insurance, on the other hand, covers anything else in my car. They will cover most things that are transported but not stored in a vehicle. They will not cover music CDs or anything else music-related. It took a small amount of work, but they eventually understood that the CDs that were stolen out of my car were my computer and dreamcast games. These were compensated at 1/2 of original purchase price (to cover depreciation).

Our policy explicitely stated that replacement costs were what they covered and not original price. The auto insurance also explicitely included the car stereo (empeg). Both insurers are State Farm.

Read your policy yourself. Most insurance companies immediately come up with a clause that would disqualify something and wait for you to come up with a counterargument. Generally, by quoting the relevant portions of your agreement, they will change their minds pretty easily, so long as they don't think you are trying to cheat them. Also, consider who your agent is working for. Is he working for you to get you the best insurance coverage possible, or is he working for the insurance company to save them money? Our guy, Lou Fisher, seems to represent us and has been very honest while working on our behalf. In return, he has all our insurance business.

Thanks for the info. I chose not to try for car insurance because of some things people had said here on the bbs about earlier scenarios and not getting replacement value, etc. If the home-owners insurance falls though, however, I will definitely be calling the other guys.

you actually talked to your agent about a claim? I thought most agents now just have to say call the claim 800# and deal with them...

I think that depends on whether or not you buy your insurance from a broker (a guy who sells insurance for a number of companies), or from an actual insurance company.

Our guy is a broker. Originally, we had different agents for different kinds of insurance, but over the years, he has gained all of our family's business, as well as a number of our neighbors. Obviously, he doesn't accept/reject the individual claims, but he is invaluable for advice and has always been fair. A while back, we were being overbilled; he noticed the error and made sure we were refunded the difference.
