Hi,

anyone willing to lend a hand in writing a kEmplode (emplode for KDE on Linux) based on the GPL'ed emptool?

bye
Lemmy

If anyone is working with the emptool source, I'd be very interested to be kept up to date with your progress. I'm happy to maintain confidentially if required.

In particular, there were noises about a native Mac downloader - has anyone made any progress yet?

Rob

I know next to nothing about GUI programming under linux, but count me in as a tester.

I also have a binary of emptool for LinuxPPC that I need to post somewhere and am planning to work out some way to do syncs under MacOS X (working on getting gcc 2.9.5 to compile under OS X Server) as soon as I get my empeg.

-Mike

p.s. Someone had mentioned writing perl modules to do syncs that could be usefull to a lot of these projects. Who was that?

any objections about the following:
1. I register the project on sourceforge, to get a webpage, CVS and that stuff
2. First step would be, we take the sources for emptool and clean up to get sort of a class library
to handle empeg car players
3. We should decide wether we develop kEmplode for KDE 1.1.2 or KDE 2.0 or both ??
4. do proper documentation of emptool!! (-> kdoc??)

bye
Mathias

Sounds good to me. I would also like to add a #4 as documenting emptool and any derived libraries since empeg does not have the time or manpower to provide us with proper documentation for the sync routines.

ok, I filed the project at sourceforge, name: kEmplode, License: GPL
I'll drop notice here when the project is actually open.

Excellent! I've already spent a couple hours digging around the code looking for a way to make the command-line tool upload alphabetically. I'm ready to go on working on a GUI.

I would say that the less-dependent the tool is on any particular version of KDE the better. I'm personally a GNOME user, but I'd love to have a Linux/X GUI that matched the featureset of the Windows emplode software. The less extra stuff I'd have to install to make it work, the better.

Of course, I'm sure you can count Linux-based empeg users on two hands and have fingers left over, so I'm well-prepared to be out-voiced on this issue. :)

If the class representing the unit is made high-level enough, and yet independent of the GUI toolkit, it ought to be possible to make Gnome, KDE/Qt, command-line and MacOS versions sharing almost all that code, with just the UI-specific stuff being separate. Perhaps the sourceforge project should be FreeEmplode rather than kEmplode?

Peter, not speaking for empeg

hey, good idea!
that's what I got in mind (sort of), just without the gnome/x/commandline stuff :)
I planned to create/redesign the class so that it can be fitted to any front-end...

aftermath: project renamed to openemplode...
