Hopefully I'm not too late for 2.0 final/rc, I've been so busy...

2.0b13 and Hijack 309 (or roughly that at least)

1) When powering up in tuner mode, the station name isn't displayed until you manually select the station - 100% reproducible. If you power up in MP3 and change to Tuner, it works correctly and gets the name.

2) After a powerup the first time I change to tuner, it's as if some sort of active gain circuit is applying a lot of gain to the tuner input resulting in a very loud and quite distorted signal for a second or two. Quite annoying. I haven't noticed this in powering up in tuner mode probably because the volume ramp stuff covers it up. After the first change to tuner everything is all cool. It maybe a hardware thing though, I'm not sure...

One thing to note with this one is that I have a power aerial so it's down until I select the tuner. However if I've changed backwards and forwards between tuner and MP3 a few times (with the aerial going up and down accordingly), the distortion only happens the first time.

3) I notice that occasionally the station names get corrupted with strange characters - sometimes worse than others. I thought the station names were stored in the empeg itself. If that was the case how would they get munged? If they're stored in the tuner module, no problem and I will pull my dash apart and shield the extension cable to hopefully fix things since I'm guessing that's where the characters are getting munged.

4) Should the AF search actually interrupt the transmission for a short while? I have simply turned it off since only one station here actually uses it, it seems. Sometimes when it does this search and goes back to the original station it forgets the station name. I assume these are part of the bugs that are holding up the 2.0 rc right?

5) The RDS light constantly flicks on and off even when the signal strength is at the full. Is this normal?

I did a bit of a search but couldn't really find anything reports similar to mine. Number 2 is the real annoying one. Anyone else experienced it?

None of these look like Hijack influenced, but you should deinstall Hijack just to make sure it's not complicit.

Will do. Trekkin' out to the carpark now so I can try on the way home. Hopefully I won't want to use any Hijack stuff....

Like you say though, it's probably a long shot.

OK removed hijack and played with it on the drive home last night. No diff without hijack.

One thing I did notice though on point 1: The one station that does transmit RDS (Triple J for those in Oz) gets the station name after it receives a valid RDS signal - i.e. after a few seconds. Non RDS stations never get the name.

I haven't actually reported this to [email protected] yet. Should I?

Some major work is being done on RDS and on the tuner code. Hang on until we see a public 2.0 release candidate and re-check your bugs against that version. If you still notice the same bugs after the RC is out, then definitely report them.

I can live with the RDS stuff. It was just things I noticed while using the tuner. The second or 2 of what sounds like high gain distortion the first time I power up is what really bugs me (pun intended).

I never got that distortion, though others reported it as well.

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of that one?

I noticed that I never got station names unless I used the preset to tune to it before (not a whole lot of RDS in this part of the world), but I never really gave it a second thought.

Speaking of tuner bugs, Tony, since you're running the alpha, can you check if an old bug is still alive? Press "search" twice in tuner mode. The first time brings up the "enter a frequency" dialog, the second used to crash the player or make it sluggish and stop responding to certain commands. I reported it awhile back and it's one of those "don't do that" kind of bugs, but I'm curious to see if it's been fixed.

Still broken.

I just tried it with the AnnaVu visual running, and on the second Search press, the visual just stopped moving.. audio continues. Visual still stopped.. info scrolls (Transient), visual still stopped.. tried changing visuals, which works, but they don't animate..

reboot time..

Okay, well I don't think it's a showstopper, in fact, I'd be depressed if bringing this up means 2.0 final gets delayed again... Just popped into my mind and I figured I'd mention it.

That's in the internal bug list... twice.

Also, there is a seemingly-related bug on the internal bug list: Entering out-of-range frequencies into that tuner dialog (for example entering 1610 when it's on FM). Produces a similar behavior in the player.
