So I'm sitting at work today when my roommate calls me. He tells me that there is a package for me sitting in the apartment’s office. Oh Oh!! I know what that is!! It's my empeg back from repairs, I seemed to have blown a display fuse a bit back and my screen was all funny. So like any good employee I drop everything at work and go home to fetch my player. It's been almost a week and so I need my fix in a bad way. I run home and retrieve my package and happily skip to my car to return to work. Once I'm inside the car I rip into my package like a 6-year old at Christmas. All giddy with delight I put the player into the dash to hear those disks spin up and for my music to start playing....
waiting...waiting...

I think I'm going to cry.

Your IDE cable most likely just came loose during shipping. Open it up and reseat it and I'm sure all will be well.

That is what I figured. Thing is my IT department has a plethora of tools so that I could do this at work, but they feel the need to keep them in a tackle box. And so if one of them is out on a call, nobody else has access to the tools. I mean does one really need 5 complete sets of allen wrenches at one time?

I understand in different places. But they are all kept in the same tool box. My boss is at one of our stores on a call with all sets of the allen wrenches that I know he isn't even using. Meanwhile I sit here in the office with a small hurdle standing in my way to listening to my empeg and I can't even open the damn thing.

Something else to consider. It was probably really cold from shipping. Let it warm up to room temperature and try again?

Is there a hardware store nearby? Or do you have any allen wrenches in your car tool kit?

I bet he's got every one of the little cross-head screwdrivers that could be used to remove the drive tray too.

It's been sitting in room temp for about 4 hours now so I know that the cold isn't the problem.

I have all the tools I need. The thing is that they are at home and I'm at the office. Guess I'll just have to wait for the 5-o'clock whistle.

What happened to that "So like any good employee I drop everything at work and go home to fetch my <insert item here>" attitude? Now go get your damned tools...

I should!
*slaps own hand*
Bad empeg owner!
I passed the first one off as an early lunch hour, don't think that will work again.
On a side note: The screen that says contact support looks really good! Thanks Rob!

A loose IDE cable was the culprit. It works just fine now. So after I fixed the cable connection I ran down to my car to go try it out. Everything fired up and loaded correctly and the player started to do its thing.
Only one problem: NO SOUND!
Seems like another cable has come loose, this time on the back of the sled and it won't play in my car. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

Well, one thing to check first. Is the volume all the way down to -inf? If you were having a lot of work done on the drives, or if there was a problem, your AC & DC volume settings might have been reset from where you are used to. A good double-check, just in case.

Only one problem: NO SOUND
I spent many happy hours dismantling my dashboard to get at the back of the sled - only to find that a wire had come loose on one of the terminals on the amp - worth a quick look!

Is the volume all the way down to -inf?
Good Call! I keep forgetting that there are AC and DC settings. It was working fine at home but not in the car. And for the past two weeks I've had my car in the shop thrice for problems with my stereo (another loose cable reeking havoc), so I automatically attributed the problem to the fact that my deck has been pulled out multiple times. Everything works again and just in time for the 16 hours that I will be driving in my car this weekend. I thought that I might of had to resort to using *shudder* cd's this week.
Thanks for the help!
