I've got one of those cheap colour cameras and a Hauppauge WinTV GO card with composite in. I want to rig this camera up to a PC with 128k broadband. Whats the best way to go about accessing the camera from another PC via internet?

I thought about simply using Yahoo messenger or something, but there must be a better way? To perhaps take control of the PC remotely as well? Any ideas?

Do you want video or just still frames? If it's the latter, then just have it run a simple web server and have a process that grabs a frame from the camera at regular intervals.

You might even be able to figure a way to allow you to tell it to snap a shot when you press a button. Shouldn't be too difficult at all.

This all assumes that it's running a real operating system (which, unfortuantely, may not support the WinTV card; I don't know).

Speaking of web servers, don't most webcams come with a piece of software that lets you send the images to an external web site at intervals? That way, your local PC can still be behind a proper NAT layer to protect it from the slings and arrows of outrageous script kiddies.

What do you mean by "cheap colour camera"? Do you mean a camcorder? putting together the same basic setup so hopefully I'll be able to use it for video conferencing. My main problem is that I can't figure out how to use the ATI video capture to work with something like Netmeeting. My other problem is that my camera won't stay on If the record button isn't pressed on it in 5 minutes, it shuts off. Not sure how to solve that one either. I hope yours doesn't have the same problem.
