I've attached a picture of a couple of resistors. As I remember these should be 100k ohm resistors. Is that right?

Oh yeah and I have to change my Sig. My Dart was totaled in a head-on last Monday. Not my fault and luckily no one was killed.

If that is indeed Brown, Black, Orange, Gold, then that's a 10K resistor, not a 100K

Well I got a broken nose, a bad concussion, banged up knees, and cuts and bruises all over. The guy that hit me got a broken wrist and I don't know what else. Major bummer, I had 2 years in the restoration of that car. I had driven it twice since it was finished. Now I have to deal with the F#@%ing insurance companies who will undoubtedly try and screw me. I will never get what I have put into that car. Of course the best thing is that no one was killed. It's a blessing I was by myself. If there had been a passenger they would have done a face plant into the dash. Not good. I at least had a Momo steering wheel to hold on to. It now is also wasted. I haven't gone back to work yet as I got a pretty good rap on the noggen.

It sure looks yellow to me. One reads 21k and the other reads 23k so I know that they're both toast. I just need to make sure I replace them with the right ones as they are in the high voltage power supply of my projector. I haven't been able to find a schematic of the HVPS yet.

Glad you're ok but sorry to hear about your car. I hope the insurance doesn't screw you too badly, I'm always worried if my Nova gets totaled, how much would I get for it.

I wonder if you could have it appraised, and, if so, if the insurance company would care?

The problem with classic cars or trucks is that they will very seldom appraise anywhere near what you have invested in them but an appraisal will place it higher than book value. I guess that is why they are considered more or less a hobby.

From looking at your picture I'd say they were 10K. Using the other colours as a reference (brown, black and gold) the multiplier certainly looks orange to me, but, if you're certain it's yellow then they've got to be 100K.

From experience I've found that faulty resistors are usually either high in value or open circuit. For me this adds weight to them probably being 10K components that have 'gone high'.

I guess you've already looked for other identical resistors in the PSU that you could measure for comparison?

Why are the resistors burning out though? Are they under rated or they just in a very high temperature environment?

Well you know....actually I hadn't. Although there are no other resistors like these, there were two 33k ohm resistors. Here's a picture showing the mystery resistor next to the 33k. I'm now convinced that they are 100k. These two resistors (the mystery ones) are wired in series with the 800 volt g2 high voltage line that feeds the CRT amplifier cards.

I know squat, more or less, about resistors, but I *really* mourn the passing of your Dart. I have great Dart memories. And such a convertible.That sucks. Glad you are OK.

I think you're right, compared to the 33K resistor that's definitely a 100K stood up in the background.

One of the ways these resistors can be fried is with improper g2 bias setup. You can get more output out of the crts ( a brighter picture) by increasing the g2 voltage on the crt amplifier cards this will produce higher beam current and more output with a decrease in crt life. I expect that might have been the case. I just bought this projector. Didn't pay much for it. I think this is the only thing wrong with it. I'm very leery about putting the wrong component in it. I think if it is a 10k and I put a 100k that there is a strong likelyhood that I will fry something. On the other hand if it was a 100k and I put a 10k in there I think I'll fry something. What to do!!

What about temporarily rigging up a linear preset pot that is initially set to the value of the two suspect resistors and carefully twiddling?

That would be the best way to be sure. The only problem is that it would have to be 6 + watts and be able to go up to 100k. I haven't looked for such and animal. I'm on my way to digikey now to take a look.

I totally agree. The Dart is definately worth 100K
