Sure looks like something is funky. Could be a hard disk problem. Are there any other symptoms that might indicate hard disk trouble? Have you done a RAM test, too? What software is running on the player?

The various "timeout" messages do indicate a serious hard drive problem, which could mean a faulty drive, cable, or connector.

Cheers

Thanks guys, this place continues to give me a warm feeling, just like I get over at Fred's.

After much juggling of hardware it turns out that the cable is bad.
Have e-mailed support to purchase a replacement.

Fred's?

Isn't it free to get the replacement cable if your cable really is bad? Rob said they'd only charge you if you didn't send the bad one back.

Yup Fred's.

Given that I'm not the orignal owner and that the cable was previously replaced with the standard laptop cable, I don't think it is fair to ask support to replace it.
